willy.txt Transcript of email I received from a sailor who served aboard the U.S.S. Williamson after the ship transported me to Pearl from San Francisco. The "Willy" continued to be part of the Pacific war effort long after she transported us to Pearl. Thanks to George S. Stubbs for writing to me and giving me this history of the Williamson. George writes: "I was on the" willie" from Aug 44 to Oct 45 when she decomissioned in Philly . I was s1c in the radioshack. After you got off the ship it was a seaplane tender at the bombardments of Saipian, Tinian and Guam. I got on at Pearl Aug 44 and the ship was servicing scout ab planes for battleships. At Iwo Jima 16th to 19th and after the invasion there we did the same at Okinawa from Mar 25 to April 1st 45, then set up a seaplane south of there at Karama Retta and we were at Guam when the war was over.
