PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE
Facilitating faculty development in the pedagogical uses of
instructional technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1996-1997).
Serving as the Educational Technology Specialist via the
Peter Kiewit and AT&T Faculty Training Grant for Instructional Technology,
I coordinated efforts to teach faculty and staff about the pedagical uses
of instructional technology. Mediums used for training
included seminars, workshops, satellite conferences, 1:1 mentoring,
and an instructional technology fair. Assessing the effectiveness
of each grant activity. Assisting with the design, dissemination, analysis,
and interpretation of results of a survey assessing faculty use and knowledge
of technology for learning. Authoring the final report from the survey.
Authoring the extensive summary report of grant activities,
From Awareness to Application: Learning to Teach Using Instructional
Technology. A Summary Report of the Peter Kiewit and AT&T Faculty Training
Grant for Instructional Technology, at the culmination of the grant.
Presenting the report to key University decision-makers and the
grantors.
Designing, producing, and implementing a graduate-level online course in selfcare with Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) (19971998). The target audience for the course was public school teachers, especially those working in high-risk schools. The goal of the course was to teach the teachers self-care skills that would reduce the risk of teacher burnout (e.g., stress management, time management, self-awareness, etc.). The course was successfully designed and implemented.
Consulting with the Office of Institutional Research at Grinnell
College (1998). Assisting with the statistical analysis
and interpretation of the results from an alumni survey. Responsibilities
included:
Serving as a program evaluation specialist for the Office of Research
and Evaluation at Austin Independent School District (AISD) (19921994).
Responsibilities included:
Assisting Project Achieve, a TRIOfunded student retention
program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1996), with their successful
reapplication to the Department of Education for four years of continued
grant funding ($500,000). Responsibilities included assessing
data needs for program support, gathering, analyzing, synthesizing, and
interpreting data, integrating results into the grant proposal. Assessment
and reapplication was completed within an extremely challenging two week
timeline.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Extensive personal computer skills. Expertise using
spreadsheets and database management (Access, Filemaker Pro, and Excel),
statistical analysis applications (SPSS, SYS, and StatView), desktop publishing
(MS Office Suite, Lotus SmartSuite, WordPerfect, ClarisWorks, Lotus, PageMaker,
Harvard Graphics), electronic presentation (MacroMedia Director, Oracle,
and PowerPoint), scanning and image manipulation (Photoshop and
Freehand). Proficient with WIndows-based and Macintosh operating
systems.
Excellent internet and intranet user skills. Adept at
using sophisticated search strategies to maximize information retrieval.
Applied experience conducting and participating in web-based committee meetings.
Prolific experience using Internet Relay Chat (IRC), NetScape, MS Explorer,
AOL 5.0, Eudora, WebWhacker, RealPlayer, ShockWave, USENet, listserves, virtual
communities, and bulletin boards.
Early and extensive applied experience at using the internet as
a research tool.
Knowledge and desire to keep up with cutting-edge software, hardware,
and internet technologies.

Extensive research and evaluation across multiple domains.
Topics included motivation, incentive and goal theory, giftedness, and
instructional technology, resulting in coauthorship of nine
publications in professional journals, six technical reports,
and sixteen presentations at national and regional professional
associations.
Recipient of First Runnerup, 1993-94 American Educational
Research Association Division of School Evaluation and Program Development
Annual Report Awards Competition in the category "Advances in
Methodology."
