1. Qualitative analysis.  The presence of the analyte was reported and not the quantity.

A "representative sample" is a sample that has all the characteristics in the same proportions as the bulk system that is under investigation.  The "chain of custody" refers to the complete documentation of who handles samples and in what capacity from when the sample is first taken at the sampling site until it is in the laboratory.
