Thank you for your interest in my pedal steel guitar course! Each
lesson tape is a thirty-minute audio-taped lesson, with tapes for all
levels of players. The lessons are given with a relaxed and
informal
delivery -- nothing elaborate or fancy -- just me with my tape recorder,
teaching you step by step how to play the
selected tune, exercise, lick, etc. If I make a mistake, I’ll just
stop the tape, back up a little and then continue.
All
lesson tapes are supplemented with tablature to aid your learning
and help you retain the material.
The key to learning to play the pedal steel guitar (or improving your playing)
is lots of practice. I think there are three very distinct areas where
practice, with instruction, is important.
Technique. Exercises designed to build and improve technique
are beneficial at every stage of learning. They are most effectual
when practiced at a very slow tempo, with a metronome and then repeated with
gradual increases in tempo. Use a metronome!
Knowledge. This is an ongoing process and should continue throughout
your playing career. The more tunes, licks, styles of music, picking
techniques, etc. that you learn, the better your playing will become.
Creativity. It will benefit you greatly to take everything you learn from now on and change it in some way -- large or small -- to reflect your personality and playing style. This must be done mainly by you, but a good instructor can help you learn techniques that will help you to think more creatively.
Lesson tapes are $16.00 each, plus $3.00 shipping (U.S.A.), per order.

My E9th setup appears below. However, a standard E9th setup is all you need for this course! When a tune, lick or chord, etc. requires a change that is not usually standard on most guitars, I always show an alternative way to play it.
