LOVINGOOD DESCENDANTS

ANCESTRAL LINE OF LOVINGOODs
LOVINGOOD/LOVINGGOOD/LIEBENGUT/LEIBUNDGUT

Ulrich [Liebengut] Leibegood (sic) immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October, 1733, aboard the Charming Betty (Betsy) captained by John Ball.

ULRICH LIEBENGUT
Ulrich Liebengut was born in Melchnau, Canton Bern, Switzerland in 1688 and married Anna Henni in the parish of Hunspach, Bas-Rhin, France 19 March 1715. Anna Henni was the daughter of Michael Henni of the village of Steffisburg, Canton Bern, Switzerland. [At the time of immigration Ulrich's wife's name was listed as Susanna which may or may not have been Anna Henni.]

Ulrich's children:
Hans Peter born 1716 in Alsace, France
Hans Adam born 1719 in Alsace, France
Hans Jacob born 1721 in Alsace France
Anna Margaretha born 1723 in Alsace, France
Maria Catharina born 1726 in Alsace, France
Albrecht born 1729 (died 1732) in Alsace, France
Herman born late 1733 or early 1734 in Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania

Ulrich died in 1745 in Pennsylvania. Herman is the only son who had the anglicized name Lovingood (the spelling first appeared in Virginia records). The other sons remained in Pennsylvania using the surnames Livingood, Levengood, Livengood, Lebegood, etc. [ In 1993 there was a family in St. Louis and Birmingham with name Lovinguth. Also in Virginia there was a family with name Liebengood. Both of these names are apparently derivations from the German-Swiss name Liebengut(h) each retaining different parts of the German. I have talked to these people; the Lovinguth ancestors are from Alsace, and Liebengood knows only the name is German.]

HERMAN LIEBENGUT ( HARMON LOVINGOOD)
Herman Liebengut was born in 1ate 1733 or early 1734 in Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. He died July, 1800, in Elbert Co., Georgia and is buried there. He likely married in Virginia in early 1760 (no record found); his wife was Ann. His name in property deeds and other legal records was both Livingood and Lovingood in the 1760s and only Lovingood in the 1770s. Records until his death show he continued to sign Liebengut.

Herman's children:
Samuel born 1760-1765 in Frederick Co., Virginia
