Questions and answers about "God stuff"!
With Pastor Joe L. Brown

Q. Dear Pastor Joe,
Why do we call a judge YOUR HONOR when he is NOT MY Honor, only Christ is. I
cannot for the life of me call a "man" your honor. I know in 1 Peter 2;15  it
tells us to "submit" to every ordinance of man and then 1Peter 2;17 tells us
to honor all men. This is very simple for me to do, have respect for the
judge, which I very well can, but NOT by calling him Your Honor but rather
Sir.
Be blessed and have a great Christ filled day. In Jesus, Karen
A. Dear Karen, The courts don't require you to call the judge "your honor,"
they just require that you show respect. I think it's OK to call a judge
"your honor" much like a king should be called "your majesty." It's simply a
big "H," little "h" issue. He's "your honor," not "The Honor." He's a judge,
but he's not The Judge.

Q. Dear Joe,
I have a friend who is in a Western Traditions class at the local university.
The attitude of the class is that Christianity is a bunch of myths, and
questions come up that she cannot answer.  Here are a couple:
1.) If man is to preside over everything and care for everything, and
everything was made for man (the classes teachings), then why did God create
dinosaurs?
2.) How do you reconcile evolution and creation?  Several speakers have come
into the class, and a biologist spoke on how creation and evolution work
together.  There is evidence of evolution (survival of the fittest), but
there the Bible speaks of creation.  We both know that God created the world,
but how can this theory of evolution be taken from a Christian standpoint?
Love in Christ, Danielle
A. Dear Danielle, sadly, most university classes teach or imply that
Christianity is a bunch of myths. And hopefully they'll always bring up
questions the students have difficulty  answering. Fortunately, there's
HREF="http://hometown.aol.com/joebrownie/"GOD TALK© and many other
ministries that help with tough questions.
1.) Man was given the responsibility of caring for the earth, including
dinosaurs. Why God created them has nothing to do with man's responsibility.
But you could check out this article:
HREF="http://www.christiananswers.net/dinosaurs/j-where3.html"Why did God
create dinosaurs?
2.) There's no need to reconcile evolution and creation. Those who try to
blend the two end up distorting both. In a nutshell, the theory of evolution
suggests that man evolved from lower life forms, such as big time wrestlers.
"Survival of the fittest" is not evidence for evolution. Quite the opposite.
For example, if the cheetah evolved into a fast runner in order to catch
lunch, why didn't the antelope evolve into a bird to get away from the
cheetah? You see, there's no evidence of evolution to another species. The
missing links are still missing. The Bible couldn't be more clear when it
teaches this theory is bogus. Throughout the creation account God tells us
that plants and animals reproduce "after their own kind," meaning oak trees
produce oak trees, fish produce fish, and people produce people. The Biblical
standpoint is that the theory of evolution is wrong.

Q. Try this one, I have a friend, and she is a new Christian. She thinks she
is a bad one already, because she doesn't know a whole lot about it, she
thinks all that astrology crap is OK, and tries to read my horoscope, and I
can't really explain how this is wrong and not to be messed with. Can you
explain this to me? ~TIM~
A. Dear Tim, astrology is such a joke! It's got no basis in Scripture,
science, logic, or reality. Isaiah 47:13-14 even mocks astrologers. Check out
this good article: www.Christiananswers.net

In the last issue of GOD TALK©, I answered a question about tattoos....
Lev. 19:28 says: "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on
yourselves. I am the LORD." I think God doesn't like it much. So take the
money you were going to spend on the tats and send it to your favorite GOD
TALK© author.
Well, nobody sent money but one young lady sent a well-deserved rebuke. I
must confess that I answered too quickly, before studying the passage
thoroughly. The context of that verse doesn't quite mean God's against tats.
It's more that He's against being associated with the pagan culture. Thanks,
Heather, for keeping me in line!

In the last issue of GOD TALK©, I asked this question: What about politics?
Should Christians be involved in their worldly government? Should we vote?
Should we lobby? Should we run for office? Should we protest? Does the Bible
support it?

Your responses....
OF course! we must get involved in politics. Is there any better way to voice
our opinions than through politics? It says in the bible that we should go to
all nations preaching the Gospel of Christ. Instead of sitting around talking
about how bad the world has become we need to go out there and make changes
ourselves. Have it be by running or by protesting. We need to make ourselves
heard and spread the word of God. I can't think of any better way to spread
God's word than through politics. (Laura)
------------
Yes we should get involved to try and give this earth some God flavour - we
are meant to be like salt and light. We are God's reps - His hands + mouths -
so  speak up - shout at your politicians - make the world a teeny bit more
like God wants it. (Prinith)

Now for this month's question:
Many people are making New Year's resolutions right about now. If you could
make one for your local church, resolving to do your best to achieve it, what
would it be?

Thanks for sending your questions and reading GOD TALK©. I hope you were
challenged and blessed. Happy New Year!
In His service and by your side,
Joe
