Welcome to the Umholtz Family History Page. Since you've arrived here I'm going to assume you have an interest in the Umholtz Family. This website is constantly being changed and updated so stop back often. If you're wondering about the picture, for now that's a pretty good likeness... except for the glasses. Of course I do have to wear them for reading. My wife says they make me look intelligent. Hmmmm....... have to think on that for awhile.

I'd like this website to be a clearing house for information about Umholtzes everywhere, living and dead. I have a family genealogy(Thanks to the effort of many Umholtzes) which currently has over 9000 names in it but there are still a lot of blank spaces. Maybe you have the information I need, maybe I can answer some of your questions. I hope to be able to post info here about births, deaths, marriages, reunions. Anything going on involving Umholtzes everywhere.

So if you're an Umholtz, know an Umholtz, married an Umholtz or hope to be an Umholtz in a future life stick around... drop me a line... ask me a question.... tell me an interesting fact about your branch of the family. How 'bout if I start the ball rolling.

Some Umholtz Facts

The first Umholtz in America was Henry(Heinrich) Umholtz . He was one of two brothers that came to America in the early 1760's from either Switzerland or one of the Germanic states. Germany did not yet exist as a country. He was married twice and had 9 children. He and his brother fought in the Revolutionary War. The family story goes that Henry's brother was killed along with his Captain in tha assualt on Quebec. At present we have not found any evidence of Henry's brother, not even a name. Names that have been sugested include Edward, John and John Philip. It is believed that all Umholtzes in the U.S. are descended from Henry.
Henry's Family Bible has survived all these years and is still in the family.
There is a branch of the Umholtz Family in Switzerland that can trace its ancestry back to the 1500's.
What's your occupation? Down through the years Umholtzes have been Artisans/Craftsmen,-(machinists carpenters etc.) Farmers, Teachers, Businessmen and the occasional Politician(Hey no family is perfect!).

Reunions 1999:

June 26,1999- the descendants of Gurney Milton Umholtz(b.5/5/1882 , d. 4/23/1969) will hold their 26th annual picnic in Hegins, Pa.

August 15, 1999 - The annual Umholtz Family Reunion wiil be held at pavilion "R" at Knoebels Grove Amusement Park, Elysburg, Pa. The business meeting will start at 1:00pm. Don't forget to register and to update the family history. This reunion has been in existence since at least 1947, maybe earlier. Do you know of one that's older? Gary Forrest Umholtz and Kristin L. Berman were married on August 23 1998 in Maui, Hawaii. The reception was held in Newport Beach CA on 8/29/1998.

Dena Elizabeth Eber and Christopher Roberts were married on August 14, 1998 in Haverford, PA.

Anniversaries:

Joseph L. Umholtz and Helen Pechota Umholtz of Carbondale, Pa. celebrated their 53th wedding anniversary on July 2,1999

George B. Umholtz and Claire Joyce Mintel Umholtz of Piscataway,NJ. celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on June 28, 1999
