Oglesby Family Reunions

If you are planning or know of an Oglesby-related family reunion, please let me know and I will post the information here!

  • The descendants of John and Sally (O'Bryant) Oglesby of Elbert County, Georgia, will be having a reunion in Augusta, Georgia, in August, 2001. For more information send an email to Wilbert Oglesby, WHOglesby at aol.com. John was a slave on an Oglesby plantation somewhere in Georgia and took the name Oglesby when freed; others freed at the time took the name Higgenbottom. This Oglesby family has a reunion every other year.

    Miscellaneous Oglesby Stuff

Oglesby Blue Quarries is just outside Elberton, GA. I believe it is named for the former town of Oglesby, GA, rather than a person. Here is a picture I took outside the Granite Museum in Elberton in July 1996. I was told that after being idle for a number of years, it was now active again and exporting granite to Italy.

Never let it be said I didn't dig up and publish some Oglesby dirt... somewhat related to the granite quarry above, it seems we have a type of silty clay named for and found in the Oglesby, TX region. Read about the Oglesby Series dirt here!

Contemporary Oglesby sites:

  • Oglesby, Paul: Physicist
  • Oglesby, Robert N., DVM: The Horseman's Advisor
  • Oglesby, Wm. Ellis: Virtual Mystery Site.
  • Chief Oglesby's Reservation: Chief Oglesby (a Pugh in disguise) grew up in the small rural Oklahoma town of Oglesby. If anyone knows the history of Oglesby, OK, the Chief and I would appreciate hearing it!
  • Oglesby Family in Alaska - lost in the land of snow & ice, but dreamin' of Vegas...
  • Oglesby Gallery: on the Florida State U. campus, part of the Oglesby Student Union.
  • There are also several references to actor Randy Oglesby, who has appeared on a number of science fiction TV shows. Randy recently contacted me. No web site yet, but go to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) and see information on Randy and other Oglesby's in the industry.
