Perhaps the most notable Oglesby was Richard James "Uncle Dick" Oglesby, friend of Abraham Lincoln, governor of Illinois, US Senator. I have some information about his ancestors and descendants but need more details. Also, Oglesby, IL, was named for him. Here are some www sites I have found that relate to Uncle Dick:
The chapel at Oglesby's grave site:

Family tradition and some genealogy & heraldry sources state that the Oglesby name came from the Forfar area of Scotland. When I first started playing with the World Wide Web several years ago, I did a search on Oglesby and obtained a cryptically named GIF, 'far_ogl.gif', which seems to depict a castle in a state of disrepair, perhaps near Forfar? Recent attempts to find the WWW page have failed, but I did save the GIF, shown below. If anyone knows the meaning of this castle and why it is related to the Oglesby name, please contact me!
