The FRV-DGC is again organizing and supporting disc golf play in the Valley this year...2001 ...I would like to thank all those who made last year a success !!!!!! On to the matters at hand.... this year sparks new interests in what the club can do forthe sport? And how can we achieve the goals & suggestions that have been made anda few key areas of concern have been brought forward. Anyone with ideas or info onhow you would like to see the club utilized can contact me or talk to me or aleague coordinator at the park. We will be organizing volunteer groups to spearheadsome of these ideas so as a club member, I hope you all help out whatever way youcan by getting involved with demonstrations, events, & the growth of our sport....The DiscT8R
The 9th Annual Mad City Open (MCO) is SuperTour status once again this year. The MCO 9 promises to be even bigger and better than ever. MANITOWOC - NEW COURSE
Manitowoc has a new course at Silver Creek Park. The park is right on Lake Michigan. Silver Creek is one of the prettiest courses I have seen in Wisconsin. You can go to DiscOverWisconsin for more information, maps and pictures of the course. Nice job Jim, Boersma, Duster and everyone else!!!!!!!
Look for a new course in 2 Rivers Spring of 2001.
GO JIM, HILDY, WADE and ALL'YALL!!! Nice hanging with you at STANDING ROCKS!!!
FROM THE "DISC-TATOR" Leftover from 2000 Season
Right off the top, I would like to thank the League Coordinator's for their weekly dedication, I realize it is not always easy to (1) get to the park, (2) organize & collect the players money, and (3) take the constant crying/whining through-out the entire year. In reality, the coordinators are the guys who keep this thing going...giving all disc'ers a set time & place for weekly play. I believe we should all remember this the next time you have a complaint or grievance of some kind. Thank's Again To: Mr. Paul Anderson (Grignon), Mr. Steve Pisaro (Telulah), Mr. Curtis Schulte (O'hauser), & Mr. Tim Glasheen (Plahmann)

Report on the; "Fox River Valley - Disc Golf Club" END OF YEAR TOURNAMENT
October 28, 2000 (Saturday-9:00am) Grignon Park-Kaukauna-18 Holes set in a beautiful park overlooking the Fox River. This course has elevation changes, trees, water hazards, & what I refer to as "placement shot" or "landing zone" fairways where you can't always drive at the basket, having to lay-up for a good second shot. Much of the course is shorter than usual & a score under par is very attainable. The weather was definately with us, there was a slight chill in the air (42 degrees & cloudy, no snow or rain, yet). I was happy to see a group of golfer's anxiously awaiting the registration & hence the begining of the first "League Tounament" ever held in the Appleton area. Duracell Batteries (Thank's Ken) donated $400.00 worth of batteries for the C.T.P. contest: Each course having a $100.00 package (Grignon-Hole #1).The Players meeting began at 10:00 am with 29 disc'ers ready for head-to-head singles competition. All tolled, there were 27 League members & 2 Non-League members in the field. Each player, at registration, was designated as Pro, Adv., or Am. The Pro division palyed from the long pads, the Adv. & Am's. from the short pads. The Pro's would also have to face, (whats come to be known as the" circle of doom") a 38' circle around five holes (1,5,12,15&16). Description: A Pro landing on or within the circle must make that putt or add a stroke to his/her score. An Am. landing outside the circle, then making his/her putt subtracts a stroke. This was an attempt to equal-out all divisions... I might add, this worked rather well... although there was a lot of complaining/whining. We followed P.D.G.A. rules, but used the "Pickle Penalty System": this allows the player to play the O.B. shot using opposite hand (no stroke is assesed, although opposite hand can be tricky).Leaders at the end of the first round were: In First: Ryan McMurtrie & Kent Kersten (48) , Second: Greg Schuh (50) , Third: Tony Sealy & Eric Severstad (52) , and Fourth: Brian Wardell (53).It was then on to Plahmann, this is the valley's first established course & boasts a five star rating from "Steady Ed". It is fairly long, with some elevation changes and some difficulty with trees, but generally the wind is what will get ya'.The Players meeting began around 1:30 pm and true to form, the course was playing tough due to swirling, gusting, always changing winds of 20-35 mph. everyone went head-to-head on this course no matter what division everyone played from the concrete pads. We used the "Pickle Penalty System" for O.B.'s. The Original 18 holes, Plus the Meadow-view 9 holes were played to total 27. The Duracell C.T.P. challenge was on hole #9 on the Meadow-view course.Leaders of this round were: First: Matt Kirschling (72), Second: Steve VanAsten (73), Third: Ken Krie & Chris Olinger (74), and Fourth: Yates VanDenheuvel (76).Leaders after the first day of competition were: Kent Kersten (125), Steve VanAsten (127), Ryan McMurtrie (128), with seven others within 2 strokes of third.

October 29, 2000 (Sunday 10:00am) O'hauser Park was the venue to be played and the weather was still a bit chilly (45 degrees) with little wind. This course is long and wooded with a 6' wide creek running through for added problems. It is said the trees at O'hauser giveth & taketh away, much of the back 9 are fairways cut into the forrest with little or no forgiveness if you get off to one side or the other.

Here the divisions each had their own tee's ... Am's (silver), Adv's. (yellow), Pro's (red) and again we incorporated the "Pickle Penalty System". I added a twist to this course, taking the top 5 players from the Advanced div. & putting them into the Pro pool, the bottom 4 Pro's were put into the Advanced pool, and 3 bottom Adv. to Amatuer pool.

The Duracell C.T.P. challenge was on hole #1.

The end of play showed some impressive scores: Best rounds: Ken Krie (49), Matt Kirschling-Chris Olinger-&-Josiah Kelly (54), Tony Jochman-Curtis Schulte-&-Paul Anderson (55), and Trevor Kerske-&-Jim Plutz (56).

Begining the final round at Telulah Park the players again assumed their status in the pre-determined pools and with the dreaded "Circles of Doom" on four holes (2, 4, 9, & 17) and this would now apply to all, Pro's - miss/add, Adv. - miss/add, Am's. - make/subtract. It was up to the disc'ers to conger up what ever means possible to overtake the leaders. Again, the Pro's from long concrete pads and the Adv. & Am's from the Kitty Litter/Rec. pads. This course is shorter than most and overlooks the Fox River with many picturesque views and wooded fairways that long to capture disc's.

The Duracell C.T.P. challenge was hole #18.

When the dust cleared & everyone began to come in off the course, the Noon Lions Club of Appleton (sending us 2 able bodied individuals) was ready and waiting for the hungry competitors with a full spread of veggies, dip, chips, and choices of hamburgers, hot dogs, & brats. As I set to the task of figuring scores, assigning prizes, and indulging in the stories from the previous rounds, I was struck by the idea of the Ace Pool (which no-one had laid claim to) and the funds therein. Each participant had submitted a $4.00 ace pool fee at the begining of play at Grignon. Along with the Ace Pools from the individual courses it had tallied up to $445.00, & by golly I was determined to give it all away. Once everyone had their fill of the food we set out to do just that with a Jumbo Putt from 48'. I am pleased to announce that many golfer's went home with a little extra cash in their pockets, in fact on one putt for $20.00 we had no less than 6 disc's drop in the bottom of the basket. After the putting, we adjorned to the pavillion for the awards ceremony. Now then, the list of competitors and how they finished are as follows:
