Norristown High Speed Line

The Norristown High Speed Line is a unique part of the Philadelphia transportation system.  It begins at 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby, just outside Philadelphia.  From there it runs west through the suburbs to Norristown, a small city up the Schuylkill river from Philadelphia.  The NHSL is a completely grade separated light rail line, powered by a third rail.  It is also one of the last inter-urban style high speed trolley lines in the country.  Still called the P&W (Phila. and Western) by many, the NHSL was served for over fifty years by the famous Brill Bullet cars.  The current vehicles were placed in service in 1993.
