PCC Trolleys
- Recent Photos -
Philadelphia retains about fifty-five PCC trolleys, all built by the St. Louis Car Company for the PTC in 1947 and 1948.  These cars last operated regularly on routes 15, 23, and 56, the North Philadelphia trolley lines that SEPTA "temporarily" suspended in September 1992.  A handful of the PCCs, shown here, have been repainted in historic colors, and are used for special services and charters.  The rest of the cars are stored, out of service, inside the old Luzerne Depot.
In 2001, SEPTA announced that it would rebuild 18-26 PCC cars to serve route 15, which is set to return to rail in 2003.  The first few cars left Luzerne Depot to be rebuilt in early 2002.
