As the founder and President of New Hope Ministries I stand in awe and have a sense of wonder of what God is doing in our growing ministry.  I feel like King David when he reminded Israel of God's marvelous deeds in their behalf.

"Look at the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done." (1 Chron. 16:11-12)

Much remains to be done to reach person in trying times who are open and receptive to receive the healing Word of God.  Please read this brochure very prayerfully and ask the Lord how you can become involved in New Hope Ministries.  God is calling us to build a team to help others get involved in helping others.   --- John E. Packo --

New Hope Ministries specializes in a 12 step approach found in our book, Coping with Cancer & Other Life-Threatening Diseases.  The purpose of this book is to help persons replace negative thoughts with the 12 Biblical principles.  This takes place by filling the heart with the healing Word of God which results in new hope for healing.

How The New Hope Ministry Began

Dr. John E. Packo earned his B.S. degree at Nyack College and his Master and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Luther Rice Seminary. Within a year after receiving his degree he was diagnosed with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma in the advanced stage with less than one month to live. He writes in his Coping With Cancer book of the struggles that took place in his heart. He tells in the "heart-talk" section of each chapter how he chose to replace his negative thoughts with the positive, healing words of the Bible.

He led a series of seminars at the Miamisburg Senior Adult Center in 1992. From this series people requested that a support group be started. Betty Hall, who attended the group, gave a copy of the book to her optometrist, Dr. Rod Thorpe who had contracted melanoma skin cancer. He was greatly motivated by the book's approach to replace one's negative thinking with 12 positive biblical principles. One day he phoned John Packo and asked if he had a leader's guide for a support group. He said, "With a leader's guide along with your book, thousands of support groups are a possibility across the United States."

Recognizing the providence of God, Packo decided to write a Leader's Guide and Thorpe a Personal Bible Study Guide to go along with the book. Packo founded New Hope Ministries, a non-profit organization, March 30, 1995. He left the pastorate to go into the healing ministry full time September 1, 1998. On the staff are Dr. Rod Thorpe, John's wife Elaine, Mr. Norman Reiley and Attorney Vern Wilson.

Our ministry has been endorsed by the Christian Medical and Dental Society.  Dr. David Stevens, Executive Director says of the "Coping Book", "This book is a 'must read' for every person with a chronic or life-threatening disease."

Packo has spoken at Bible Conferences and has conducted seminars in churches, homes and hospitals throughout the Midwest and Southeastern United States. We are just starting to reach the vision of thousands of support groups throughout the U.S.  Will you help us? Founder and President of New Hope Ministries:
Dr. John Packo

John E. Packo earned his Master and Doctor of ministry degrees from Luther Rice Seminary. A pastor for thirty-nine years, Dr. Packo is founder and president of New Hope Ministries. He and his wife, Elaine, conduct both church and community seminars. The Packos live in Miamisburg, Ohio.

John Packo was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in the advanced stage. He was given one month to live. Six months later, after ten massive chemotherapy dosages, a team of doctors all agreed that Packo's recovery was a miracle.

He shares his experiences in the book, Coping With Cancer and Other Chronic or Life-Threatening Diseases. Coping With Cancer proposes twelve creative and practical choices for meeting cancer or any serious illness head-on, with God.

'Too often I've seen serious illness and its treatment devastate people. John Packo has battled terminal illness himself.  With empathyand the heart of a pastor, he shares practical advice and godly wisdom that will bring peace and joy to patients in the midst of their struggle. This book is a 'must read' for every person with a chronic or life-threatening disease."

Dr. David  Stevens, Executive Director, Christian Medical & Dental Society

John E. Packo has also written the book, Find And Use Your Spiritual Gifts. Spiritual gifts are for ministry, asserts the author, and they function best in a sharing, loving community of believers.

Researched in a local church setting, the simple procedures Packo outlines go beyond theory to provide a practical guide to help believers understand, identify and develop the spiritual gifts God has given them.

Pastors, elders, lay leaders and people in the pew - all will profit from these 13 studies designed for personal or group use.

Packo has led seminars on healing, spiritual gifts and family life at churches, summer camps and conferences.
