About Bully Whys

Welcome to Bully Whys. This site was created to help others find information that they may need to help deal with a bullying situation. While many adults are bullied, this site is dedicated to helping parents learn what they can do if their child is being bullied, or is a bully. Many experts are calling bullying "an epidemic," even an "epidemic of cruelty." This site hopes to help parents, kids, and all who are interested in helping to solve this world-wide problem.

What will you find on these Web pages? For starters, several articles that I wrote a few years ago. As the site progresses, there will be reviews of books on bullying and related topics.

Bullywhys.com will be undergoing some design changes over the next few weeks, so please forgive any unmatched pages! My main goal has been to provide content for parents of bullied kids, and that will continue. But now it is time for a little tweaking to make the site easier to navigate, and to spiff it up a bit.

If you are a "mean mom" (say what you mean and mean what you say), or if you aspire to being a mean mom, check out my new website! AskMeanMom.com. There is a weekly column, a You might be a mean mom if..., polls, a Parenting Thought for Today, and more coming soon, including a membership area.

Relational Aggression

Relational Aggression (RA) is the systematic abuse of another by a person or a group of persons. RA is usually perpetrated by girls on another girl, usually singling out a target. She/they exclude, ridicule, and humiliate the target. They gossip and lie about her, eating away at her self-esteem.

The American Association of School Psychologists state that 160,000 kids a day miss school because of a fear of bullying. RA is a serious form of bullying. Not only do these girls miss valuable education time, it can have serious consequences on their mental health. Girls tend to focus inward when depressed. This may manifest in eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, cutting (self-mutilation), and, sometimes, even suicide. There is even a new word that describes suicide of bullying victims...bullycide.

I have put together some information for parents, schools, places of worship, Y's, and other organizations. This information is practical and can be put in place immediately, without waiting for a club or program to show results, which can take a long time. Too long, when it involves the abuse of another.

RA has been tolerated for too long. Many say that they don't know what to do. My report gives you that information. Be warned: It is not wishy-washy, touchy feely, tap dance around the problem stuff. It is calling it what it is: abuse. It will mean teaching the aggressor (bully, abuser) that what she is doing is wrong, and it will not be tolerated. It will be about empowering the victim to stand up for herself. It will be about getting the "bystanders" (often, participants) to recognize their role in this abuse and to stop participating.

Relational Aggression: What it is, And What Parents, Schools, and Other Organizations Can Do About It is available via email in Word Documents to save on printing and shipping charges. The cost is just $15.

A new website!

Relational Aggression is a form of bullying. This website now has a companion website. You will find articles (more to come), information, and news on RA. Please visit Stop RA Today! soon.

In addition to running this website, I am also the web manager for a dear friend, Dr. David B. Stein of Richmond, VA. Please see his brand new website at DrDaveStein.com Dr. Dave, as he is known, is a Virginia psychologist and author. He is also a professor at Virginia State University. He's written 5 books, with more on the way, on the subject of ADD/ADHD, parenting; specifically parenting "difficult" children without the use of medications. His books benefit all parents, however, as he has a proven, workable program that works! His Caregivers' Skills Program is highly recommended.

I've learned about a fantastic organization from the Richmond, VA area. If you, your school, or other organization is interested in learning more about what can be done about bullying and violence, check this out. And be sure to tell a friend!
Notwiththesehands.org...Dedicated to violence prevention efforts in Greater Richmond, Virginia, USA.

Thanks for visiting. Content is added fairly frequently, so keep checking back. In addition to anti-bullying, this website will be a help to parents in other ways...info on ADHD, parenting in general, education, and so on. Regards,

Julie Clark
