Welcome

Hello and a warm welcome to Richard Loftin's studio at Seven Ravens Metalworks in Yachats Oregon.

Named after the Native American tribe that lived on the Yachats River, this small town of 500 is located on the rugged central Oregon coast surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains. The name 'Yachats' was the tribe's word for 'at the foot of the mountian'.

On a typical day you can find Richard working on such diverse sculptures as a 5' long stainless killer whale or 7' tall stainless praying mantis.

Blasted into creation at the tip of a 50,000 degree plasma cutter, Richard Loftin's stainless steel sculptures literally reflect their enviroments in an almost surrealistic quality.

Colored by the sky and surroundings, these aesthetic expressions confront us with the third dimension in a new and dynamic way.

If perfection could be welded and polished in stainless steel, then perhaps Richard Loftin has caught the golden ring.

Beyond the sculptural artworks in progress, Richard also plies his artistic talents to custom welding, polishing, and fabrication. "I'd like to do mostly artwork, but I also do a lot of just fabrication type work. I learned metalworking in the Air Force as an airframe repairman and I make and invent most of my metal working tools."
