Tour of Some Covered Bridges of Northeastern Kentucky Prepared by Jim & Cathy Reinoehl Disclaimer: Both roads and bridges are subject to change. If you find any needed changes to this tour, please notify author1 at jreinhl@aol.com. The authors offer no guarantees to its current accuracy. Start south of Maysville, KY on the "AA" highway. Go WEST on KY10-AA for seven miles to KY435. Turn RIGHT on KY435 toward Dover and continue straight ahead on KY1235 toward Dover. Turn RIGHT on KY8 a half mile and then RIGHT at sign to Lee's Creek/Dover CB#17-81-01. Note the unusual double pony queen truss. Return to KY8 and follow it west along the Ohio River for 13 miles. Turn left on KY1159 toward Brooksville. After about three miles, look for Walcott/White CB#17-12-01 alongside the road on left, just north of AA. Note the queenpost and MKP elements of the truss. (In 1999 it was dismantled for repairs.) Continue south on KY1159 to Brooksville. Go four miles south of Brooksville on KY19, then turn LEFT on KY165 through Mt. Olivet toward Blue Licks Battlefield State Park. About eight miles past Mt. Olivet, turn LEFT on KY1029 to Johnson Creek CB#17-101-01, alongside road on right. Note the unusual truss with the arches resting on the bottom chords but with the second Xs extending down to rest on the abutments. The World Guide calls this a "HoweV" without illustration. Return to KY165 and go east on it about 10 miles to KY32. Continue east on KY32 to Flemingsburg. Continue east on KY32 around Flemingsburg to Goddard. Turn left through the town lattice Goddard/White CB#17-35-06 to the church parking lot (unless your vehicle exceeds the 5-ton load limit! Don't worry about the load limit if the bridge has been bypassed.) Turn RIGHT on to KY32 a short distance and then LEFT on KY156 to Poplar Plains. Turn LEFT on KY111 through Hillsboro to MKP Grange City/Hillsboro CB#17-35-05. Park in the lanes on either side of the bridge. Return NORTH on KY111 to Hillsboro. Turn RIGHT on KY158 to MKP Ringos Mill CB#17-35-04. Park along Rawlings Road and old SR158 at bridge. Take KY158 back to Hillsboro and turn right on KY111 and left on KY32 back to Flemingsburg. Turn RIGHT on BUSINESS KY32 into Flemingsburg (the home town of former covered bridge builder Stock Bower). Look for a possible covered bridge banner on the courthouse. Go north on KY57 for about 20 miles to KY984. Turn LEFT on KY984 to Cabin Creek/Mackey-Hughes Farm CB#17-68-03. Note the mongrel elements in the Childs-like truss, which more likely is a MKP with arch and iron rods added. Continue across NEW bridge on KY984 but turn LEFT at "T" to come out on KY8. Turn RIGHT on KY8 to return to Maysville. At Maysville, turn LEFT on US68 to return to where you started. This tour, based on 1994 NSPCB COVERED BRIDGE SAFARI TOUR #3, was last edited 25 August 1999.
