Start at the interchange of SR61 and I-71 in Morrow County. Go south on SR61 for about two miles. Turn LEFT on Chambers Road for about a mile to Chambers CB#35-21-04.
Continue through the bridge to SR656. Turn LEFT on SR656 for a half mile. Turn RIGHT on Porter Central Road for about two miles. Turn LEFT on Olive Green Road for about a mile. Turn RIGHT on Condit Road to Condit. Continue across SR3-US36 on Co. Rd. 605 (old SR605) to SR37. (Just south of South Condit note the old pony eyebar iron truss bridge on a driveway to the right.) Turn LEFT on SR37 through Johnstown to Alexandria. (At Johnstown, note the bandstand in the park at the traffic signal. At Alexandria, note the covered bridge on the sign for Izzy Lou's Pizzeria.) At the south edge of Alexandria, turn RIGHT into Fireman's Park and see McLean CB#35-45-17.
Continue south on SR37 for about a mile to the junction with SR161. Turn LEFT at the traffic signal to continue on SR37. Look for a private roofed foot bridge at a church on the left. At Granville, continue on the freeway as it becomes SR16 and SR37 turns off. Continue on SR16 east from Newark past Marne. Turn left on Co. Rd. 668 (Licking Valley Road) and jog left and then right to Hanover. Turn left on Main Street at the traffic signal in "downtown" Hanover. The road becomes Co. Rd. 210 outside of town. Look for the private Davis Farm CB#35-45-25 on a drive just to the left of the county road, about 4½ miles out of Hanover. Be cautious about parking and about trespassing at this private bridge.
Continue on Co. Rd. 210 to Hickman. Turn right on SR79 more than a mile to Rocky Fork Road and turn left twice to continue on Co. Rd. 210. (The first left is off SR79. A second left over a bridge avoids going straight on Co. Rd. 244 if you want to drive past the Boy Scout Camp Falling Rock. If you do not want to take the time to try to find the covered bridge at Camp Falling Rock, you CAN go straight ahead on Co. Rd. 244 = Rainrock Road to SR586 as noted below).
The Boy Scout Camp CB#35-45-04 is on a foot trail in Camp Falling Rock left off Co. Rd. 210. The bridge is NOT visible from the road, so seek directions locally if you absolutely must find the bridge. Hint: There is/was a parking area at the Bailey Bridge (second) entrance to Camp Falling Rock from which it is/was possible to hike a trail to the bridge.
Continue north on Co. Rd. 210 from the Boy Scout Camp to a crossroads. Take the right fork on Co. Rd. 201 and jog left and then right to continue to another crossroads. Turn left on Co. Rd. 244=Rainrock Road to SR586 = Pleasant Valley Road.
Turn right on SR586 for a mile and turn left on Twp. Rd. 225 aka Girl Scout Road toward Camp Wakatomika. Take this dirt road for about a mile to Shoults/Girl Scout Camp CB#35-45-05.
Return to SR586 and turn left for a mile to Co. Rd. 201=Frampton Road. Turn left on Co. Rd. 201 for a mile to Gregg CB#35-45-06.
Continue on Co. Rd. 201 for about two miles. At Frampton, Anderson Road (Twp 222) continues straight ahead where Co. Rd. 201 turns right. If you want to see the 1928 spandrel arch concrete "Rainbow" bridge at Bladensburg, go straight ahead on Anderson Road to Bladensburg. At the Rainbow Bridge turn right on SR541 to SR79. You can also turn right at Frampton to continue on Co. Rd. 201 to SR79. This road becomes a gravel township road in Coshocton County.
Turn left on SR79 to Nellie. Turn right on US36 to SR60. Turn left on SR60 to Blissfield. At Blissfield turn right on Co. Rd. 343 to Helmick CB#35-16-02.
If you turn left through the bridge, you'll eventually come out on SR60 via a 1-lane gravel road.
If you continue on Co. Rd. 343 beyond the CB and take all left forks, you'll come out on SR60 at Layland via partly-paved county roads.
If you turn left on SR60, you can take it and US36 southeast to Roscoe Village and perhaps take a ride on their canal boat. If you then go west on SR16 from Coshocton, eventually you'll reach Columbus. As you go through the village of Tyndal, you can view a small private roofed footbridge on the west side of Twp. Rd. 347 (west of SR 16). It is pretty for taking pictures and the owner (Rollin R. Clark) has expressed an interest in having visitors. There is also a small roofed footbridge on the OSU campus in Newark. If you go east on US36 from Coshocton, you'll eventually reach I-77 at Newcomerstown (the home of Cy Young, the former baseball star).
If you turn right on SR60 and then right again on US62, you can go to Millersburg and Amish Country. If you turn right on SR60 and then turn left on US62, you will eventually reach Columbus. At Brinkhaven is a roofed deck girder from an old railroad bridge that is billed as the longest covered bridge in Ohio. It is visible from US62.
This tour was last edited 15 April 2006.
It was combined with a previous tour in western Licking County to eliminate roads to departed bridges.
