Tour of Some Covered Bridges of Franklin and Southwestern Fairfield Counties, Ohio

Start at Slate Run Metropark west of OH674 south of Canal Winchester, Ohio. Look on the right side of the main park road for Brannon/Wesner CB#35-25-65, which was moved to this park from a private residence in Franklin County after earlier having been moved there from Muskingum County.  The bridge is 1.2 miles west of OH674.

Go north (left) from the park on OH674. Where 674 turns left, go straight ahead and look for Bergstresser CB#35-625-03 on the left after several curves. Continue north into Canal Winchester. Turn right on West Waterloo Street to downtown and turn right on High Street and left on Columbus Street, which becomes Winchester Road. At a curve to the right, turn left (straight) on T200=Jefferson Road and then left again on Pickerington Road for a half mile to Lockville. At a right curve, turn LEFT into a park to see a canal lock and Hartman#2CB#35-23-38. An alternate park entrance is just past the canal lock.

Turn right from the park and go south on Pickerington Road about four miles, then left on Lithopolis Road for about two miles. Turn right on Rock Mill Road a short distance and then turn left on Rock Mill Place to Rock Mill and Rock Mill CB#35-23-48.

Return to Rock Mill Road, turn left and continue south on Rock Mill Road for nearly five miles.  Where the county road turns sharply to the right, turn left on T148=Westfall Road for about 3½ miles. Turn right on C30=Delmont Road across US22 and curve left on C30=Stoney Hill Road. After about a mile, turn right on T289=Hopewell Church Road for about two miles and then turn left on T258=Meister Road to Mink Hollow CB#35-23-43, which is bypassed in a little park.

From the parking area, continue two more miles on the same road, which is now C28=Crooks Road.  At a "T" turn left on Hopewell Church Road a half mile to another "T"and turn left on C69=Clear Creek Road to Johnson CB#35-23-16 (bypassed on the right), with a parking area on the other side of the bridge.

Turn right from the parking area on T136=McDonald Road and turn right at a crossroad on C24=Clearport Road to Hannaway CB#35-23-15.  It is bypassed and has very little space to park.  Try for a pulloff just before the first guard rail if you want to stop.

Continue on C24 to a "T" and turn right on C55=Hamburg Road about 4½ miles. Turn right on T286=Mill Road, jog left on C90 and right on T286=Stump Hollow Road. Turn right on Old Logan Road to Charles Alley Park and look for George Hutchins CB#35-23-13 on a trail in the park.  It is not visible from the parking area.

From here turn right on Old Logan Road unless you want to go into Lancaster.  One can easily take US33 west toward Columbus or east toward Athens.
