Start at the Y-Bridge in Zanesville (on US40 crossing the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum Rivers).  The Y-Bridge was covered in the 19th Century.  For a bird's-eye view of the Y-Bridge, turn south off US40 onto the first street west of the bridge  (Pine St.) and climb a hill to Putnam Hill Park at Grandview and Cliffwood Sts.

From Zanesville go east on US40 for about seven miles to the Zanesville Pottery.  Turn left there on Arch Hill Road (C82) under I-70 and over the railroad track; continue for about two miles to the bypassed Salt Creek CB#35-60-31.

Continue on the county road for about two miles further to a "T".  Turn right on Norfield Road .(C64) to SR83.  Turn left on SR83 for a mile to Bloomfield then turn right on SR209.  Turn left on SR662 for about a mile and turn right on Co. Rd. 614 for about two miles to SR658.  Turn left on SR658 for about two miles to T611.  Turn right on Covered Bridge Road (T611) to Indian Camp CB#35-30-04.

Go through the bridge on Twp. Rd. 611 to a "T"; turn right a short distance on Mount Herman Road (C380, fornerly C19) and, at the cemetery, turn left on Co. Rd. 368 or Lemon Hill Road .  After several miles continue straight ahead on Co. Rd. 33 and go over the steel truss bridge to Cambridge.  Inside Cambridge the road becomes North 8th Street.  Look for an entrance to a city park on left and take the park drive to see Armstrong CB#35-30-12.

Continue on the park drive nearest the bridge to North 10th Street.  Turn left a short distance and then right on Edgeworth Avenue.  Turn left at the traffic signal on Clark Street (old US21, now Co. Rd. 35), and fork right on Co. Rd. 366 to go over I-77.  Continue on Broom Road (T367) to US22.  Turn left on US22 past Salt Fork Reservoir to Smyrna.  Turn left on SR800 toward Freeport.  At the south edge of Freeport turn left on Co. Rd. 27 (Skull Fork Road) past a "round barn" to Skull Fork CB#35-34-19 (bypassed off a township road on the left).  The narrow one-lane dirt township road (Covered Bridge Road) will take you back to US22 in the middle of Smyrna.

Note that you could take Covered Bridge Road directly from Smyrna to the Skull Fork Covered Bridge IF you see it in time and weather conditions make this one-lane dirt road passable.  It is also possible to take a shortcut by turning left off US22 onto Skull Fork Road west of Smyrna.
