December 2006 - Giant Tortoise Reintroduction Tour, visiting Praslin (Vallee de Mai coco-de-mer palm forest), Aride (seabird capital of the Indian Ocean), Curieuse (giant tortoises), St. Pierre (snorkelling) and Silhouette (giant tortoises, forest animals and plants)
Visiting Silhouette island
The rare animals and plants of Silhouette island can be seen by visiting the island. Boats trips from Mahe enable day visitors to spend a few hours on the island. This allows time to walk some of the coastal paths and to visit the Giant Tortoise Conservation Project. A full experience of the island is only possible by staying several days at the LaBriz hotel. NPTS provides guided walks into the forests, enabling visitors a chance to find some of the rare and elusive species, such as chameleons, frogs and stick insects. Funds raised by the guided walks support the conservation work on the NPTS on Silhouette. To arrange an exploration of the island during your stay contact NPTS.
