Happy Third Birthday, Dewey!
Well, he did it! My beautiful, headstrong, astonishingly
brilliant boy has made it to his third birthday! Dewey is the
first of my rats ever to reach this milestone, and I couldn't be more
thrilled. Not that I'm surprised it was him--Dewey has never
really been one to accept any limitations.
I already created a tribute to Dewey for his second birthday, and I hope you'll take some time to learn more about him there. You haven't fully experienced cuteness until you've seen Dewey's baby pictures!
We celebrated his third birthday quietly, with a ratty smorgasbord from the grocery store salad bar and the sponge cake and cheesecake pictured with Dewey above. I didn't make his buddies, Flirty and Banjo (both turning two next month!), come out for pictures, but they did get to share in their favorite part of the celebrating--the eating. I did get some pictures of the youngsters, Swiffer and Booty, which you'll find farther down on this page.
As for Dewey, he is only just now starting to act like an older rat. He had surgery a few weeks ago, which has slowed him down, but hasn't dulled his personality at all. He sleeps hard, but snaps instantly awake at any hint that food may be near. He mostly hangs out in his hammock, but his head is usually jutting out so that he can sternly demand that I give him any treat he desires. And, when I inevitably give in to his mind control, he unceremoniously shoves his buddies aside for the best bits.
He seems to have recovered completely from his recent surgery, and continues to be healthy and alert. I am so thankful for the long, active life he has had, and I hope to have him for a long time yet to come! Happy birthday, my precious boy!
