After the first 24 Minute comic at the UK Web &
Minicomix Thing, I suggested the following improvements to the 24 Minute Comic:
1) preprinted pages with the page
directions AND PAGE NUMBERS (!).
2) a line at the bottom for "creator's name / website"
3) a defined drawing area - as the portfolio tables were mostly taken when we
started
4) a loudhailer
1) & 2) worked to plan, and for 3) all but five people congregated around a
row of tables in the Expo hall gallery.
4) was a bit of a problem … I managed to startle/deafen
John McCrea with the starting whistle.
I think next time, we shall get everyone together, and
encourage spectators. But the whistle was unnecessary.
When 1200 arrived, there were a few people missing, so I
ran like Billy Whizz around the Expo Hall and managed to get the numbers up to
22. Four people started after the rest, but everyone got no more than 24
minutes. The two missing pages were filled by Al Davison and Seiriol Davies
combining the captions for two consecutive pages – so you don’t miss any of the
story.
So we made a twenty two page comic,
plus a cover, created by approximately 24 people in less than two hours !
That’s slightly more time per page than the first attempt, but a whole hour
faster. Next time, I reckon we should go for thirty pages …
If anyone did not get a copy and wants to buy one, you can send me 1 (or four
first class stamps) PLUS a stamped, self-addressed envelope. (email

The corrected, scanned & improved version will appear in Just 1 Page 4, to
be launched at the Comic Expo in
Bristol in May 2006.
Thanks very much to everyone who took part, and to folks who cheered us on !
Same time next year to break the record properly ?
