JUST 1 PAGE 4 call for contributions now closed The final Just 1 Page magazine will be launched for sale at the Comics Expo in Bristol in May 2006 (comicexpo.net). This year’s theme is the WORLD ! Inspired by the football World Cup, some have embraced the football theme completely, with Wayne Rooney confronted by a Predator (my suggestion was drawing Wayne Rooney as The Hulk or Jose Mourinho as Professor Xavier from the X Men) and two dozen contributions from Brazil. Others took it off on a tangent with Batman arguing with Judge Dredd over the meaning of football or the X-Men as a bar football team. Of course, Brazilian star, Ronaldinho has recently joined the ranks of comics characters in his home country and there's a Shaolin Soccer manga. All profits from sales of the magazine and all proceeds of the auctions of the original art will go to Childline www.childline.org.uk. * * * * * THE 24 MINUTE MINI-COMIC A side project of Just 1 Page, 26 artists combined to produce 24 pages plus cover in 25 minutes ! And we went and did it again ! * * * * * |

TAKING PART IN JUST 1 PAGEThis has been the final J1P for me, as I'm just too busy at work now, but I think we're going out on a high, so if anyone wants to take over the vacant "manager's post" please contact me. For the record, here are the instructions that most artists seem to have ignored ! You can take part in the Just 1 Page magazine whether you are an established pro, a small-press star, someone attempting to make a break in the industry, an amateur, or a fan. You do not even have to be British or to be attending the Comics Expo. All you have to do is donate an actual paper-based page of comic art to benefit the UK's CHILDLINE charity. After struggling to keep track of all the artwork for auctioning, I really want you to send hard copies of your art this year. Electronic coloured version of paper originals are allowed, but I must receive your paper version. If you are a top professional then a signed print is acceptable. Contributions can be a one-page strip, a convention sketch, a painting or a pin-up page whatever you can spare the time for. It does not have to be a new piece of art produced for this project. A4 sized art is preferred (around 210mm x 297mm, US letter size = 8.5" x 11") but if you can also send an electronic scan 300dpi minimum quality then we can work with A3. For more info on how to contribute art, buy a copy, or keep informed of the auctions, contact Adrian Brown just1page@aol.com History of Just 1 Page In 2005 (so far) Just 1 Page 3 raised £600 for Childline. In 2004, Just 1 Page 2 raised £800 for The Trinity Hospice in Clapham. In 2001, the first Just 1 Page comic raised around £500 ($800) for CBLDF and Comic Relief. Just 1 Page is a collaboration of artists and writers from the whole range of the comics community, focussing on, but not limited to British comics. Each contributor sends just one page featuring a character with a connection to the theme – these have been Heroes, British Comics, Team-ups and best battles and for 2006, the World (Cup). All contributors give their time and art free of charge. The magazine contains pin-ups, strips and text articles - covering the whole range of comics from action to comedy, from sci-fi to soccer, from Spider-Man to Sid the Sexist, from Desperate Dan to Judge Dredd. And MANY MORE. Back issues of J1P2 and J1P3 are available. Pros who previously donated original art include Lew Stringer, Tim Bradstreet, Bryan Talbot, Phil Winslade, Brian Wood, Jock, Al Davison, Charlie Adlard, Gary Northfield, Paul J Holden, Steve Pugh, Paul Ridgon, Peter Gross, Mike Hawthorne, Dave Windett, Gary Spencer Millidge, Trevor Hairsine, Len O’Grady, Adi Tantimedh, and Hunt Emerson Others who have contributed text or otherwise include Leo Baxendale, Bryan Talbot, Chris Weston, Mike Carey, Rob Williams, Simon Furman, Euan Kerr, Peter Hogan, Lee “Budgie” Barnett, Warren Ellis, Steve Gerber, Andy Diggle. |
