79th USN Construction Battalion
79th Seabee Song
Words by JOHN F. McHUGH, CO. "D"

From The Seventy-Ninth United States Naval Construction Battalion Cruise Book, p.78:

I

"We're the boys of the 79th you've heard so much about,
The people stop and stare at us whenever we go out;
We're noted for our talent and the clever things we do,
Most everybody likes us and we hope you'll like us too.

CHORUS

As we go marching and the band begins to P-L-A-Y
    You can hear us shouting,
The boys of the 79th are on their way.

II

Now we've been here for one whole year with coughs and colds and squeaks;
We eat our chow, but God knows how, and still our snozzles leak;
But out upon that muddy field in rain, and snow, and breeze,
You'll always find us on our toes, THE 79TH SEABEES.

CHORUS

III

From Norfolk on to Gulfport, then Hueneme by the sea,
The 79th went training for the cause of liberty;
We trained by day and trained by night, to show the Japanese,
The road to hell was built for them, BY THE 79TH SEABEES.

CHORUS

IV

From Port Hueneme by the sea to dreary pier,
We then laid down on the Chaumont, for the cruise that brought us here;
To ( ) Alaska, where the gals are as scarce as trees,
Oh! What a helluva, helluva life for THE 79TH SEABEES.

CHORUS

V

Now we are here to make complete, the Maintenance of the base,
And the scuttlebutt keeps flying in and out of every place;
It's Adak! it's Attu! it's Kiska hear them tease,
We don't care, let the Japs beware of THE 79TH SEABEES.

CHORUS

VI

Now we don't know what's in store for us, and we don't give a damn,
We gripe and groan and yell and moan, but we'll stick to the very last man;
And when the war is over and the world's again at peace,
The U.S.A. will cheer for the men of THE 79TH SEABEES.

CHORUS"
