About US @ Karen's Ceramics
Here at Karen's Ceramics, we specialize in Indian and Southwest designs. We have spent many years investigating and researching the Native American culture. Our color designs are patterned from true indian artwork We are proud to offer this line of products to you.
We use molds manufactured by companies such as Doc Holiday, Kimple, Scioto, and Duncan. We start by a process of pouring a compound called slip into the mold. After a brief period of time, we pour out the excess slip, and allow the slip remaining in the mold to dry. The dried slip is called greenware. Next we open the mold, and clean the rough edges on the piece. Next, we fire the piece in a device called a kiln. This unit reaches temperatures in excess off 1200° F. This process turns the greenware into bisque. The bisque piece is now ready for painting. We use special techniques to hand craft the piece that other companies do not. Next the piece is signed and dated by the artist. Then we finish the piece with several coats of sealant that protects the paint on the piece. Then the piece is ready to sell.
We also do customization on pieces. We can detail any piece to your specifications. For instance, if you have a picture of a horse that you would like duplicated onto one of the available horse statues that we carry, we can do that. Or, if you have a specific color scheme that you would like on an available piece, we can do that!
