25 Compositions in Midi Format
The scores and parts for all the following compositions as well as others in the Dennis Báthory-Kitsz catalog can be obtained from Westleaf Edition, an ASCAP publisher.
Please note that the Midi renditions presented on these pages have been re-arranged to play adequately (at best) on most sound cards. If you can do it, use the suggested settings of real samples for the instrumental pieces (my originals are set up to play on an E-mu Proteus MPS-Plus Orchestral and Proteus FX). Whichever method you use for playback, don't miss Rough Edges, a hair-raising 20-minute piano piece which plays pretty well in Midi form ... and, yes, it has been performed live!
You may contact me for further information on using or performing this music. Enjoy it; I would be happy to hear your comments. And I beg your cooperation in listening to this music for pleasure and ideas. If you would like others to hear it, direct them to my pages rather than making a copy. Thanks for that.
The net is full of wonderful composers, including the eclectic bunch with pages in the Kalvos & Damian New Music Bazaar. See who they are and listen to their music.

Murkee's Lament, for celli, double basses and pianos
Copyright ©1995 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W955.

Quartet for Winds, in four movements
Copyright ©1970,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W702.
One of those pieces of which I'm quite fond, even though it's a young composer's innocent work. Use flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon settings. (The original 1970 version was flute, alto flute, clarinet and bass clarinet. Ah, ambition.)
Playing time = 1:31; 3:30; 1:10; 2:09

Midi version, second movement = 2K
Midi version, third movement = 5K
Midi version, fourth movement = 4K
Quintet for Brass
Copyright ©1972,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W727.
Premiered 20 years after its composition, this quintet is very short but extremely tricky. It was originally sketched for quartet and baritone voice, but the contra-melodic second trombone was too much to resist. Use real samples for this one.
Playing time = 2:20
Midi version = 9K
Rough Edges, for piano
Copyright ©1987,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W873.
Written on six staves, this atonal-minimalist composition is a repertoire piece for pianist Michael Arnowitt, who is one of the few who can play it. Use a hot grand piano setting if you've got one.
Playing time = 20:09
Midi version = 145K
Seven Chocolate Eclems, for violin and cello
Copyright ©1992 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W928.

Playing time = 17:21
Midi version = 109K
The Two-Minute Sneeze, for wind trio
Copyright ©1985,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W857.
One of a set of trio and quartet dances for pure entertainment. This was written for the Vermont Wind Trio. Choose oboe, clarinet and bassoon settings to get it light & right.
Playing time = 2:15
Midi version = 8K
Variations, for piano
Copyright ©1972,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W7212.
Another early tune of which I am quite fond. It's an enigmatic rhythmic variation set, atonal but no formally so. The Midi version can't catch the naïve drama of it, unless you've got a good grand piano setting.
Playing time = 10:03
Midi version = 20K
Waltz in No Time, for wind trio
Copyright ©1975,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W752.

Midi version = 6K

Playing time = 13:00
Midi version = 59K
Windows on the Moon, for solo cello
Copyright ©1986,93,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W937.
Described by one composer as the finest cello piece of this age, which I modestly repeat here. If you can voice this file to a real sampled cello setting, you'll get a good idea of its pleasures.
Playing time = 12:23
Midi version = 15K
Wormholmusik, quintet for tubas in three movements
Copyright ©1974,95 by Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. Westleaf Edition No. W744.
Three very different movements: an introduction and wild dance, a pesante trading tune, and a fugue where all the development takes place in the voices during their entrances -- and then comes the coda! If you haven't got a tuba sample, use French horn, and turn the volume way up.
Playing time = 3:29; 2:37; 6:06
Midi version, first movement = 38K
Midi version, second movement = 6K
Midi version, third movement = 16K
