Official Standard for the Pug


      The PUG, one of the oldest breeds, has flourished true to his breed down through the ages from before 400B.C. He has always been domesticated and has endeared himself to mankind. Authorities agree that the Pug originated in the Orient. China, where the breed was the pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet, is the earliest known source.

      This lovable and staunch little dog is well described by the motto " a lot of dog in a small space.
  
      The Pug should be short and cobby, wide in the chest and well ribbed up. His muzzle should be short, blunt, square, but not up-faced. His head should be large, massive, round-not apple-headed, with no indentation of the skull. Eyes should be dark in color, very large, bold and prominent, globular in shape, soft and solicitous in expression, very lustrous, and when excited, full of fire. Ears are thin, small, soft, like velvet. The preference is a button ear. He should have wrinkles that are large and deep. His tail is curled tightly as possible over the hip. The double curl is perfection.

     The fawns shed quite a bit more than the blacks. The pug is called the odorless dog. He is full of energy and loves to be with his people. He is in heaven when around children. All Pug wants out of life is to be with his family.
