Introduction

When I was in high school, a friend of mine and I convinced our librarian to teach a class that was described in the school course listing, but as far as we could tell never really was taught. (The two of us were the only ones to take Contemporary Literature.) As one of the requirements of the class, for each book over the semester (including out-of-class reading), we had to record the bibliographical information, along with a paragraph or two describing the premise and some sort of critique.

Unfortunately, I lost most of the record I made during that time and in the several years after. I also stopped making said records. In 1992, I began recording my reading material again, although I couldn't have told you why. This site now has (nearly) all the books I have read since then. (I say "nearly" because I'm sure I neglected to record a few.)

Caveats and Reassurances

I give no endings or surprises away in these reviews. Dates of the reviews are included to assist you, the reader of these reviews, in understanding my mental states and maturity as I wrote these. Background information: My birthdate was 9/67. I came out of the closet (as a gay man, duh) to myself around 3/92. I moved from Knoxville, TN to Boston, MA in 8/92, and finished coming out to my (immediate) family in 1/93. For more information on my academic credentials, if you care, see my resume.

Please let me know what you think, and if you find these helpful in any way. If you have books to suggest, I'll be happy to hear them. I am always looking to broaden my horizons, and so I would appreciate hearing about excellent books that are not in my usual genres or subject matter. I'm actually a rather slow reader, though, so don't expect me to review a recommended book quickly.
