From a letter written the day before dad was killed...

By the time you get this you will have already heard 4th division is in the middle of it again.We have had fighting all around us last night and today,but I am fine and I intend to stay that way.The place we were supposed to go before they changed our mission was mortared last night so I'm glad we didn't go.I just want you to know that I love you dearly and am ok.Honey I must get prepared to defend myself tonight so I must close.I am getting to love you more each day if that is possible.Kiss our baby for me

These letters helped to ease some of the pain of not having my father there as I grew up.They let me know how proud he was that I had been born and that he loved me very much.
