THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS

In 1948 the Dead Sea scrolls were found at Wadi, Qumran. The text of the Prophet Isaia was found to be identical to that of the Septuagint. The Scrolls were wrapped in linen and found by two Bedouin shepherd youths in a cave near the Qumran area in the northwestern region of the Dead Sea in Palestine. The Scrolls were found in earthen jars, much like the one in the photo below, covered with a pitch of tar-like substance. The writing on the Scrolls was in Hebrew and Aramaic. The Scrolls are now owned and retained by the Hebrew University where qualified scholars are permitted to study them.
