In 312 AD Our Blessed Lord gave Emperor Constantine a vision that assured he would conquer in the Name of Christ if he put Christ's Monogram on the shields of his soldiers. He saw the symbol of the Chi-Rho (XP, which is Greek for CHR, meaning Christ). Constantine's warriors carried Christ's monogram on their shields, and banners despite the fact many of them were pagans. Contstantine's modest army of 25,000 met Maxentius and his overwhelming 190,000 man army on the Milvian Bridge over the Tiber River. Maxentius' army suffered a complete defeat, the tyrant himself lost his life on October 28. Constantine the Great then became the "Sole Ruler" of the Western Roman Emperor. This paved the way for what was to come in the following year.
In 313 Emperor Constantine officially recognized the Catholic Church when he issued the Edict of Milan. This Act legalized Christendom, which was forced since shortly after the day of Pentecost to be underground. The Holy Catholic Church was no longer Persecuted by Rome, rather, the Roman Empire was converted; it never fell.

Emperor Constantine and his mother, St. Helen.
It was St. Helen who found the Holy Cross on which Christ was Crucified in the year 318. She also retrieved the The Holy Title, and the Holy Nails that spiked our Lord to the Cross.
The picture below is a Crucifix containing a piece of the True Cross; it is displayed at the Cathedral of Orvieto.

In the above illustration you see authentic Catholic Teaching, Christ is the Cornerstone of our Church (Luke 20:17), and that fact is reflected by Christ's Monogram appearing in every Catholic Church worldwide. Christ is the Cornerstone and St. Peter whom Christ named the ROCK and his successors are His Vicar.
