It was the last day of school and I was heading home to Olathe , KS from Kansas City on 6/3/01 just glad to start the summer. The sky was getting dark. I heard a rumble and then checked the TV alert. A storm was moving up from Lawrence on K-10 highway towards Olathe. I saw on my laptop that it was coming fast. I grabbed my storm bag and went to 143 Street and Frontier Trail JH to watch the storm come in. I camped out in the Eastern par of the parking lot to see what I could capture on video. (All pictures frames snapped with imovie on Mac laptop. Video taken with Panasonic PVDV900). |

As the storm moved in there was this curious funnel like object to the East . It looked like a funnel streaming upward but there was no rotation. |
As the column continued to rise, separate pieces flew upward from the tube like structure. |

melted into the rest of the cloud. Apparently this was a scud cloud extension of some sort flowing upward. Then the storm moved in with the sky turning a light green-grey and pea sized hail pelted the car. |
