Troop 549 is Chartered by the Cooper-Young Neighborhood Association located in Memphis, Tennessee. The Troop meets every Thursday evening at the Galloway United Methodist Church. Meeting activities planned by the Scouts include learning and practicing Scouting skills, planning trips, special activities, working on merit badges or other projects of interest to the Scouts, games, and fun.
Troop 549 has an active camping program, attempting to camp out one weekend out of each month and to schedule as many varied camping locations and experiences as possible throughout the year.
Troop 549 is a boy-run troop. Boy leaders plan and execute their own program with support from the adult leaders. New Scouts begin with small jobs under the guidance of more experienced Scouts. As their skills and knowledge improve, new responsibilities are given to them.
