BIOGRAPHY SUSAN BATTEN Luna Moody Holden on the ABC Television Network's "One Life to Live" Susan Batten portrays Luna Moody, a warm, funny and intelligent Southern New-age goddess worshiper, whose belief in horoscopes, crystals and auras has seen her through the worst of times. Temporarily paralyzed in a car accident by her husband's lover, her faith is put to the test as she fights not only to regain the use of her legs, but also for her marriage to Max Holden. Susan's entrance into the world of daytime television was quite unique. "One Life to Live's" executive producer asked the show's casting director to bring in her "wish list" of actors she would like to cast on the show. Stage actress Susan Batten was on top of the list. She arrived at "One Life to Live" in her off-beat, SoHo-style clothing; and mesmerized them with her beauty. When she was asked to describe the type of character she'd like to play, Susan responded in her thick Southern drawl, "The kind of woman who pulls out nose hair to look as though she was crying over a man; a woman with her very own vocabulary; a chain smoker; and a deep French kisser whose favorite song is 'A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On' . ." They were convinced that a character must be created for this outrageously humorous, attractive and unique actress. Along with head writer Michael Malone, they created Luna, who literally parachuted into town on Friday the 13th (September, 1991). Susan, who was born and raised in Clayton, N.C., became interested in performing when she was a young girl obsessed with watching Elvis Presley movies. At first she dreamed of being a go-go dancer, but as she matured, she decided that maybe some day she would become an actress. When she graduated from high school, chemistry -- not acting -- was on her mind. For two years she was a chemistry major at Louisburg College in North Carolina. For fun, she auditioned and landed lead roles in two Louisburg productions. Her interest in acting became a passion, and she transferred to the North Carolina School for the Arts, where she received her B.A. in drama. After graduation she moved to New York, and landed roles in "Come Blow Your Horn," "Scooter Cycle," "Nebraska" and "Beautiful City." She also appeared in numerous regional productions, including "Birdsend," "Hamlet," "The Cherry Orchard" and "'night, Mother." Last year, Susan starred opposite Julie Harris in an off-Broadway production of "The Fiery Furnace." During her spare time, Susan enjoys visiting her family in Clayton. She also loves to collect and refinish antiques. More than anything else, Susan enjoys cooking, and especially eating. To keep in shape, she works out and does yoga on a daily basis. The Spirit of Luna
By CoolWrtr
Where there is life, there is a spirit
Where there is a heart and soul, there is a Spirit
Above the sky a Spirit awaits, to return, to reclaim the day
A Spirit so strong in heart and in soul
A Spirit so kind and wise
One that taught us about love and life
One who taught us to learn and grow
One who told us the truth when there was wrong
One who taught us the truth and believed in us
She awaits to rise again
To show us again what it meant to love, laugh and cry
She waits to rise again, to start over
And to correct all the wrongs and make them right
The time has come for her to rise
She is waiting......
The Spirit is alive, and the return is near
