Instuctions to run The Diabetic Daily Log

The software can be very detailed for intensive management. It is not required when filling out the Diabetic Daily Log that every field be filled in. It is up to the user to determine what he or she wants to fill in. Option 1 should be run to establish the database. The results from Diabetic Daily Log can be given to a health team member such as a nurse, doctor, or dietitian to help you manage diabetes. The user is responsible for what he enters and this software is only a tool for you and your health team to be able pinpoint problem areas.

Once the registration form is received, a disc with the latest software and documentation will sent to you in return mail. This software can be used for 30 days of posting before registering.

Instructions are within this document to build an Icon for Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 00, XP. TDDL.exe is the file name of the software. You can double click within File Manager or Windows Explorer to execute or build an ICON under windows.



The first screen will an introductory screen to continue press ENTER.


The second screen will be a Menu of various options, you may Select any option.

Enter Selection:

Option 1 Post or Update Daily Log

This is the most important screen. You should enter your daily activities here. The information entered is used by other options to generate your reports. If no data is entered here the other options will not work.You can update and modify data as you wish.

Option 2 Standard Glucose - Averages.

This will bring you to a screen that will show you your daily Glucose reading and average glucose reading.  Kennzo Stats are produced at the end of Glucose Test Results. This is useful in showing progress from week to week or month to month.

Option 3 Daily Log Review.

This will display the Daily Log of data entered for a date range. This is used for reviewing daily data.

Option 4 Glucose Test Results.

This will show only glucose readings similar to option 2 but without times and averages. Will indicate Low by "-" or High by "+".

Option 5 Sequence of Daily Events.

This option will display on the screen daily log data in sequence of the event.

Option 6 Generate Print File.

This option will print reports on the printer or on a File (C:\report.wri). It will generate a print file on the following reports depending on your request. Standard Glucose Averages, Glucose Test Results, and Sequence of Daily Events.

Option 7 Glucose Range

This option will give you the opportunity to change glucose range 70-120 to whatever you want for this session.

Option 8 Exit System.

This option is selected when you finished using the Diabetic Daily Log System. This must be selected to properly close out the database.



***** Option 1 Post or Update Daily Log ****

The first screen you'll see in option 1 is Enter Date YYMMDD.

Enter Date YYMMDD 960919

At this point the system will pre-fill the system date. If you wish to enter  another date to update prior records or post other days, you may change the date. The date must be entered in the format YYMMDD.

Example 930602 for June 2, 1993.

Example YY = 2 characters such as 93 for 1993.

Example MM = 2 character month such as 06 for June.

Example DD = 2 characters such 02 for the second day of month.

Press Enter after the date has been entered. The system will examine the  database and indicate if a record is found or a new record will be posted.

You have the option to Post or Modify data on the database.

Enter Date YYMMDD 960919 Thursday 19 Sep 1996

N = Next Day

P = Prior Day

M = Main Menu

R = Reenter Date

Enter = Modify Record

Enter Selection

Entering N will advance the date on day.

Entering P will go to prior day

Entering R will return you to the date field to reenter another Date.

Entering M will return you to the main menu.

Enter will bring you to the Diabetic Daily Log for Posting or Modify your data.



The screen The Diabetic Daily Log is the main area for entering your activities. Check  the date on the left side of the screen to verify the date is correct. You may leave this screen by pressing Enter.

It is not required that all data fields be filled in. You have the option to enter what you want, as little or as much as you want. You may come back to this date anytime to modify data.

When entering data, you may use the mouse to point to the field for entering data. If you do not have a mouse, you can tab to the field. Don't worry about making an error entering data. You can return to make corrections. Some basic edits are in the software.

Please note, that all times should be entered in Military Time.Example 0800 is 8 O'clock in the AM not the PM. 8 O'clock in the PM is 2000.(24 Hour clock starts at 0000 in the morning to midnight 2400.) This is needed by the program in sorting data for the sequence of events.

It is recommended that your blood glucose be taken prior to meals and prior bedtime. You have 3 entries for prior meals and one prior bed time. You also have an other category in case a reading is needed because of a low or high feeling.

Before and After Exercise Glucose readings are available. You may use Before and After Exercise Glucose test if other readings are required. If more readings are required use the comments section. The before breakfast should be a fasting reading . Record glucose readings in mg/dL format.

The Daily log is presently set up to handle any medication such as Pills and other Insulin such as NPH, 70/30 etc.. If you do use Reg Insulin enter the number of units. If you half a unit of insulin enter .5. You can use for number of mg of the pill  and other medication such as blood pressure pills etc. Use the field the way you want.

Blood Pressure reading can be entered if you wish. If you do not have a blood pressure device, it may be a good idea to have it taken at a local pharmacy. This field is optional.

You have a section to record your meals and snacks. You may enter a brief description of the food.

You have a section to record your exercise such as Jogging, Walking, Bike riding, etc. Also record the start and end times of exercise.

Under comments you may enter whatever you want. You may want to comment on how you feel, other medication you have taken, lab results, appointments, mini diary, etc.

Press Enter when your completed. The system will ask at the end of the form  if your completed. If you want to go back to an item, Enter N and press Enter. The system will go to the top of Log for entering data. If you are completed for that day, Enter Y and press Enter.

If the system date (which should be today) is equal to Enter date it will return to menu. The system will go to the Enter Date screen if more days have to be entered into the system.

It will increase the day by one in case you have to enter multi days. You have the option to enter more days or return to the menu. Again you can use this screen as you wish.




**** Option 2 Standard Glucose - Averages ****

Option 2 will ask for a date range on the screen. The system will pre-fill the date  range with this months date. You may enter a range that you want to track. You enter a Start Date and End Date in the YYMMDD format.

If you get a message "No data found in Date Range selected", you may try another date range by pressing continue or to return to the menu enter M and press enter.

Enter Date Range (YYMMDD format) Start Date: 961001 End Date: 961015

The program will display one full screen of data and waits for you to continue by pressing Enter, or you can print the screen on the printer by pressing print screen on your keyboard. Some computers required holding shift down while pressing print screen to print the screen. If you want to return to the menu type M at the end of the screen and press Enter.

This report is helpful checking your progress week by week or month by month. Kennzo Standard Stats are produced at the end of the Standard Glucose recapping the Date Range for the following. Glucose Range, Glucose Average, Number of Lows, Highs, and Normal readings. From the date range entered it will give an estimate of your HbA1c. of how you are doing.....similar to a Glycohemoglobin.

Kennzo Standard Stats will indicate the percentages of Normal , Low and High ranges , based on data entered in the date range selected for Standard Glucose (prior meals and prior bed only) .


**** Option 3 Daily Log Review ****

This option will let you review your daily log for a date range. The software will display on the screen the daily log in the sequence of the date range. When a daily log is displayed, the system will wait for a response so you can print the screen (hold down shift & press print screen), return to Menu by Entering a M, press Enter to continue, Type B (for back) to go to prior date, or type F (for forward) to advance to next date.




**** Option 4 Glucose Test Results ****

Option 4 will ask for a date range to be displayed on the screen. Enter a date  range that you want to track in the YYMMDD format. The program will display your Glucose readings similar to option 2. Option 2 will not  display the times and averages. Option 2 will show other, Before, and After exercise glucose readings. If your glucose readings are higher than 120 a "+" will appear after the reading. If your glucose readings are lower than 70 a"-" will appear after the reading. The program will wait for a response after each screen. You can print the screen (shift &print screen) press Enter to continue to next screen, or Enter M to return to the menu for other selections.

Overall Stats are produced similar to the Standard Stats but will utilize all the glucose readings including other and before and after exercise.


**** Option 5 Sequence of Daily Events ****

Option 5 will display a report of daily activities in the sequence of the event. Enter a date range that you want printed in the YYMMDD format. The software will sort the data of the date range you selected. When your database becomes large a message will be displayed "System Sorting Data" This message is displayed at the bottom of the screen to let you know the system is sorting the data.

The system will ask if you want your output on the screen to be scrolled. You may enter Y or N. Y will scroll your output. N will display one day at a time. The system will pause awaiting response after each screen. You may press Enter to continue to the next screen. You may want to print the screen by pressing shift/ print screen. You may want to return to the Menu by pressing M. Sequence of events is a very important report for your health team such as your dietitian, nurse and doctor. They can pinpoint problems causing your highs or lows by seeing what has happened during the day. They may find a problem on what your eating, times in medication, and unnecessary glucose readings etc.

Kennzo Overall Stats are produced similar to the Kennzo Standard Stats but will utilize all the glucose readings including other and before and after exercise.


**** Option 6 Generate Print File ****

Option 6 will Generate Print File . The system will pre-fill the date range with first day of the month. You may enter a date range that you want to print in the YYMMDD format. Press return when ready. After the Date Range has been entered the software will indicate the following:

To print the report.wri file you can use WRITE in windows 3.1 and NOTEPAD, WORD, WORDPAD in Windows 85/98. This report.wri file can also be FAXED to your Doctors office.

Example: Print from 01Sept94 to 10Sept94 Y/N?

You have the option to continue on the reports in that date range by entering Y. Or you may return to the menu for another selection by entering N or space. This is used as a second chance to verify what dates will be printed.

The program will ask: Print all reports? Y/N. You may enter "Y" or "y" if you want all the reports Standard Glucose Averages, Glucose Test Results, and Sequence of Events to be printed. If you want to select different reports enter a space or N. The program will give you the option to print your selection. Print Standard

Glucose Time & Averages? Y/N

Print Glucose Test Results ? Y/N

Print Sequence of Events? Y/N

Your output file report.wri is ready                                                                                                                                                                                               You can print the file using Windows WORDAD

You can also start WordPad by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories, and then clicking WordPad.  Click on File, Select open, Open C:/report.wri , the report will appear on the screen, click File and select print to print.


**** Option 7 Glucose Range ****

Option 7 will allow you to change the range of glucose from Low = 70 or High = 120 values.

When you change the values they will only be for the session or until you change the values again within the same session... Changing the values will alter the high and low indicators on reports and values in the Kennzo Standard and Overall Stats reports. Check with your doctor on the range that best suits you... Non-diabetic range is 60-120.


**** Option 8 Exit System ****

Option 8 will close out the database and wrap-up the system. This option should be selected when you are completed using the system. The system will display FINISHED USING DIABETIC DAILY LOG SYSTEM and return you to DOS, WINDOWS, or XP when completed.
