David German's T.A.I. (Transition Action Incorporated] and KENPO KARATE

New Bedford, MA.-November 15,2004: Mr. Rebelo was promoted to the rank of "Godan" [Fifth Degree Black Belt] by Grandmaster David German in his art of T.A.I. [Transition Action Incorporated] & in Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate. Mr. German, on a tour of New England, promoted Mr. Rebelo due to his long time training in the martial arts and his study of the art of TAI and his 22 year study of Mr. Parker's system. David German is one of the oldest "Kenpo Seniors", having studied with Mr. Parker at his original studio, having helped build the walnut street location as well as having been instrumental in the process of the creation of the forms,techniques and sets of what is now refered to as "American Kenpo". He has been featured on the covers of "Black Belt","Budo International" magazines as well as being nominated for Black Belt and inside Kung fu's Hall of Fame, where he received Honorable Mention in 1983,along with Ralph Castro & Jay T. Will for "Kenpo Instructor of the Year".

Rhode Island-October 25,2004: Mr. Rebelo was awarded his "Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu" Instructor's Certification" by Grandmaster Victor "Sonny" Gascon [Founder of the KGS system] & Professor Mike Rash at John Levesque's Studio in Rhode Island. GM Gascon is the source from which all lineage of kenpo/kempo from the Pesare-Cerio-Villari stem from in origin. Mr. Rebelo has known GM Gascon since 1999 when they first met at the "Gathering of the Eagles" in Las Vegas,NV. It was an honor and a privilage to recognized by the Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu family and certified to teach by this keystone to Hawaiian Kenpo/Kempo History

 Mr. Rebelo inducted into the
2004 SHOJUKEMPO INTERNATIONAL HALL OF FAME as HISTORIAN OF THE YEAR

Rhode Island-Summer,2004: Mr. Rebelo was honored by Larry "Tiger Linc" Martin, Long time Shotokan&Kenpo practitioner and the founder of the Shojukempo style, to be asked to attend his yearly summer camp for various martial arts practitioners of his dojo. He was also inducted into the 2004 Shojukempo Hall as fame as the "Historian of the year" for his continuous efforts in researching the the various martial arts and documenting them through his telvision programs and websites. "Soke" Martin honored him by stating before the group of students,instructors and masters in attendence by stating that "When I have a question on the history of various martial arts, This [Mr. Rebelo] is who I call!". This was a particularly special award to Mr. Rebelo because as he stated in his acceptence speech "This was not an award that I "bought", rather, it was truly awarded to me & for that I am truly grateful". Besides the Induction Certificate & Award Plaque, a memorial T Shirt with all the inductees names was also given to the inductees.

 Mr. Rebelo instructs a series of seminars in Puerto Rico for the
WORLD NINDORYU FEDERATION and the NINDORYU INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP

Puerto Rico-Sunday, August,2004:Mr. Rebelo recently returned from a week-long stay in the home of his mother's birth, where he taught a series of seminars throughout the island as a guest of Ignacio Moreira, Kancho [division leader] of the Nindo Ryu Gendai Ninjutsu division of Nindo Ryu. He was one of the featured guest instructors it the "Nindo Ryu Summit Camp" held that weekend. Although He [Rebelo] is Kancho of the Nindo Ryu Kobujutsu ["Ancient Martial Arts"-Okinawan Weaponry], he opted to instruct in another art he is an instructor in...ChinNa! Chin Na is the chinese forerunner to Jujutsu and Mr. Rebelo has trained with such "sifu" as Grandmaster David German and Sijo "Dragon" Smith. Sifu Rebelo taught various locks, holds, seizing and controlling come alongs as well. He was joined by such sensei as Leon Major of the "Nindo Ryu Goshin Jujutsu" system, Jose Caban of the "Nindo Ryu Nisei Jujutsu" branch, Vivider Sensei of Nindo ryu's mixed martial arts division, and of course, special guest, "O Sensei" Carlos Febres, Founder of Nindo Ryu! The camp itself lasted 2 days, and included not only seminars, but a wonderful banquet and recognition ceremony! Also, Mr. Rebelo taught seminars at Moreira Sensei's home dojo on the arts of Ed Parker's American Kenpo and Kobujutsu, where he did an inpromptu "evaluation" for those Black Belts who wanted to test at a future date or be recognized for their weapon skills. Mr. Rebelo would like to personally thank Moreira Sensei and his family for their kindness and generosity as well as "Nick", whose grandson tested for rank at the outdoor test in the mountains in ninjutsu and before "Kyoshi" Rebelo in kobujutsu as well!

Mr. Rebelo had an incredible time teaching 2 seminars in the Des Moines area!
There were over 25 participants at Prof. Bobby Barongan's Studio. He went over select techniques,theories and principles from Prof. Chow's Kenpo,Shorinji Kempo,Karazenpo Goshinjutsu, American Kenpo and Danzan Ryu Jujutsu as well as the history of the various styles!

Mr. Rebelo had a wonderful gathering afterwards at Prof. Barongan's home then off to teach a second seminar at Dave Mondo's "Tiger Dragon Kenpo Karate" on the topic of the attacks of american kenpo techniques, master key movements, as well as a question and answer section on select techniques from the students attendees.
Special guests included many high ranking black belts from Prof. Barongan's "United Kempo Karate Systems" and Joshua Meredith, founder of www.kenponet.com!
Mr. Rebelo was also fortunate enough to attend a test held by Prof. Barongan's group and was asked to join the UKKS as well.

NEW HORIZON KARATE

West Boylston,Massachusetts-Sunday,Feb. 29th,2004 : Mr. Rebelo was asked by Mr. Jim Alty's "New Horizon Karate" to teach a seminar on the various techniques of the legacy of Victor "Sonny" Gascon and the Karazenpo Goshinjutsu system as well as the history,theories and concepts of the Various Hawaiian Kenpo/Kempo styles taught through the lineage of Prof. William Kwai Sun Chow "The Thunderbolt" and how they related to "Combinations/Defensive Manuvers" Techniques of the New England based "Shaolin Kempo" system. Mr. Rebelo went over the importance of knowing the "attacks" that these combinations defend against,as well as elaborating on the history of how some of the techniques were changed over the years. the over 3 1/2 hour seminar was a a real "Question and answer" format with many people receiving "Confirmation of the fact" on how some of the material was created and surprise at how some other techniques were performed! Mr. Rebelo was assisted by one of his students in the Chinese-Hawaiian Chuan Fa/Kempo arts, Sifu Shaun Seifer of Worcester,Ma, Instructor of the Imperial Dragon Martial Arts Academy. Thanks go out to Shihan Alty and all the students of New Horizon Karate as well as the visiting WMAF [World Martial Arts Federation] member black belts and students!

 Mr. Rebelo attends Prof Feliciano "Kimo" Ferreira's Massachusetts Seminar

Orleans, Massachusetts-Thursday, January 22: Mr. Rebelo travelled to Cape Cod for the opportunity to work once again with Prof. "Kimo" on the various aspects of his "Kempo Jutsu" system. The event, hosted by the "Masters Self Defense Centers" of Orleans, Mass,owned by Chris Hatch, a aquaintance of Mr. Rebelo from his early training days in Kempo with Mark Pina in New Bedford. On the suggestion of Matthew Barnes, Prof. Ferreira was invited to share his knowledge of the various arts he had studied and his own unique innovations to the creation of his own unique art of Kempo Jutsu. The event was further compounded by the special appearence of Grand Master George Pesare, who brought a rare video of the early days of instruction in Rhode Island when students like Roger Carpenter and Prof. Nick Cerio were students under GM Pesare. Also, the founders of the Masters Self Defense Centers chain, Shihan James Bryant & Shihan Robert Nohelty were in attendence as well. Also working out at the seminar was the former wife of Prof. Cerio and Founder of the Leedokan Kenpo system, Nancy Lee [Cerio] Ambrosia & Her son, William Cerio. Prof. Ferreira went over various techniques that came from Prof Chow, Walter Godin, Hawaiian Lua, Aikido,Escrima and his own systems techniques! He featured weapon defenses and stick and knife drills and techniques. Mr. Rebelo is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kempo Jutsu International of Professor Ferreira. As always,Prof. Ferreira, along with his lovely wife, Kiko, brought rare photographs and documents on various martial arts history to educate the attendees on the background of their respective arts.

2003 WCAF KENPO CAMP

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Mr. Rebelo was asked at the 2003 WCAF Kenpo Camp at Mr. Dawud Muhammad's Martial Arts Academy by Pres. Leroy "Lee" Epperson of the WCAF to teach at the event! Mr. Rebelo took the time to detail out the Ed Parker American Kenpo Karate "Freestyle Techniques" to the many attendees. For many of them, it was the first time that they had an opportunity to study this now rare aspect of the American Kenpo system

Owings Mills, Maryland: Grandmaster Leroy W. Epperson, III,President of the World Combat Arts Federation, recently appointed Joseph Rebelo of Rebelo's Kenpo Karate in New Bedford,Massachusetts, the position of Massachusetts Representative for the WCAF. The World Combat Arts Federation was founded by Grandmaster Ed Annibale to promote the combat-oriented martial arts through instructors with various martial arts backgrounds. The WCAF affords its members the opportunity to train at their Charter Schools and through seminars/training camps. They not only offer instruction to their members, but also testing, promotion, and internationally recognized certification. WCAF members receive discounts on all WCAF seminars and events. Mr Rebelo initially met both Mr. Annibale and Epperson ay the annual WCAF instructors camp 2 years ago and was a featured instructor at 2 of the WCAF kenpo camps. Mr. Rebelo said, "I was initially impressed with the coverage that the WCAF in martial arts publications such as "Tae Kwon Do Times", so I attended their camp and was impressed with their honesty and candor. I knew it was an organization that I wanted to be affiliated with on a personal level."

 Mr. Rebelo appointed to "Board of Directors" for Kempo Jutsu International

Hawaii: Mr. Rebelo was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Professor Feliciano "Kimo" Ferreira's "Kempo Jutsu International" of Hawaii. Prof. Ferreira, a Fifth Degree Black Belt under Walter Godin [Well Known Kajukenbo/Kenpo Master and co-founder of the Karazenpo Goshinjutsu system] and the founder of the Kempo Jutsu system. Prof. Ferreira is certified by the Motobu Family has also has two videos available on the subject of Kempo jutsu. "Kimo" is reknown as a Martial Arts Historian and has a prolific Martial Arts collection as well. He also has and upcoming book and video available in Japan. Mr. Rebelo was chosen due to his extensive knowledge in the various Chuan Fa/Kenpo/Kempo styles and systems and his support of Prof. Ferreira's seminars and events.

Mr. Rebelo attends Black Belt/Sash test at Sijo Art Lapham's Raven Kenpo Jujutsu

Somerset,Massachusetts: Sijo Art Lapham, founder of the Raven Kenpo Jujutsu system, recently had a Black Belt/Sash test at his studio. The testing board featured "Sijo" Lapham, "Sijo" Robert "Dragon" Smith of the Shao Choy Hung Kung Fu system,also on the board was Douglas Veronesi of "Mr. V's Kempo Jujitsu" of Dighton, Massachusetts, and "Sigung" Rebelo, who acts as "Technical Advisor" for the Raven Kenpo Jujutsu system. The Black Belt candidates had to perform a 2 day test with the first part being a physical test run and edurance section ad well as a written test on general history of the martial arts and specifically kenpo systems and the raven kenpo jujutsu system as well as a section known as "face your fear". The second day consisted of a test of all the material in the Raven Kenpo Jujutsu system before a board of Black Belts.

Mr. Rebelo attends Chin Na Seminar of Sijo Robert "Dragon" Smith at Mr. V's Kempo Jujitsu

Dighton, Massachusetts: Mr. Rebelo recently attended a chin na seminar by Sijo Robert "Dragon" Smith of the Shao Choy Hung Kung Fu system, at "Mr. V's Kempo Jujitsu, Hosted by Douglas Veronesi, chief instructor of the studio. The semnar was 2 hours long, with attendees coming from all over southeastern Massachusetts for this seminar as the "Dragon" went over armbars,wristlocks,fingerlocks and other Chin Na manuvers against grabs,punches,holds,bearhugs,and weapon attacks. Mr. Rebelo is a fellow member of Nindo Ryu International and the World Nindo Ryu Federation with Sijo Smith, who is a certified Eighth Degree Black Belt under the Jujutsu division. Mr. Rebelo is also a student of Sijo Smith in the Shao Choy Hung Kung Fu system in 5 animal kung fu and chin na.
