Organized in 1973 at Howard University by jazz trumpeter and educator Donald Byrd, the Blackbyrds were a force in 70's Jazz/Funk/Soul Fusion. They released seven albums from 1973 through 1980. Named after Black Byrd (1972), Donald Byrds' hit album, the group featured soulful instrumentals, Jazzy horns and funky rhythms that took them to the height of the Black music charts in the 70's.
