Welcome to Key NorthWest!

An Oasis for the Tropically Minded and Latitudinally Challenged

Ahoy There! We are a fun loving crew with our home port in Key NorthWest, which is situated along the Pacific Ocean and the beaches, mountains, valleys, lakes and many rivers surrounding the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, including Salem, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.  We also have crew members in other places, both near and far.  We share that adventurous spirit that drove so many to seek the wild frontiers and the thrill of discovering new places and people as well as an appreciation of the music of Jimmy Buffett and everything tropical.  Last year we celebrated our tenth anniversary as a club, the twentieth anniversary of Parrot Heads and the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition that helped open up our far side of the world.  Not that we ever really need an excuse to have a party!

Key NorthWest also happens to be located in the mythical province of Cascadia and includes Rosaria, the realm celebrated annually with many Rose Festival events in the Portland area. The restless natives here are constantly seeking a touch of the tropics in their daily lives (and that lost shaker of salt!).  One of our sister cities is Margaritaville and we are always on the lookout for friendly people, interesting places and fun experiences.

Local folklore is that this island (of sorts) broke away from those other Keys several millennia ago and drifted around until it came to rest somewhere between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and their many tributaries. The legends are many and the stories just seem to get better as the years go by. We try to keep up the old traditions and make up new ones whenever the mood strikes.  After ten years of partying with a purpose, we continue to think that having fun and enjoying life remains an absolute necessity.

We welcome new members and kindred spirits.  We meet monthly at various watering holes and other establishments around the area and beyond and also have frequent celebrations.  If you would like to join the party (already in progress!), check out our calendar of events, our newsletter the "Tropical Times" and the links on our other pages for your fun, amusement and enjoyment.  More information about active crew membership is listed below, but we don't require joining to attend our events.  Also, we feel it is important to give back to the beautiful area we call home so we help with charitable events throughout the year.

Come on in, the waters fine (even if the lifeguard looks a little shaky!).  Just get those Fins Up and head to our particular harbour!  You'll get a warm welcome and we'll all have another reason to celebrate!  Welcome Aboard, Matey!
