Libertarian Party selects Bob Barr as 2008 Presidential Nominee

“I’m sure we will emerge here with the strongest ticket in the history of the Libertarian Party,” Barr stated in his victory speech shortly after being selected as the Party’s nominee. “I want everybody to remember that we only have 163 days to win this election. We cannot waste one single day.”

“We’re proud to present to the American voters Bob Barr as our presidential nominee,” says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis. “While Republicans and Democrats will fight for their own power in November, Libertarians will fight for Americans. Bob Barr is one of the strongest candidates in the Party’s 37-year history, and we look for him to have an enormous impact in the 2008 race. Republicans and Democrats have good reason to fear a candidate like Barr, who refuses to accept the ‘business-as-usual’ attitude of the current political establishment. Americans want and need another choice, and that choice is Bob Barr.”

The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting www.LP.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.

Court: Texas had no right to take polygamists’ kids

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - A state appellate court has ruled that child welfare officials had no right to seize more than 400 children living at a polygamist sect’s ranch. The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the grounds for removing the children were “legally and factually insufficient” under Texas law.

The appellate court ruled the chaotic hearing held last month did not demonstrate the children were in any immediate danger, the only measure of taking children from their homes without court proceedings.

ABC Reset Republican Debate Tally After Ron Paul Win?

ABC TV apparently reset its tally of who won the Republican debate it broadcast on August 5, Sunday morning.

At 10 AM EST, Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex) was winning the debate with over 1,000 votes. Mitt Romney was next with 106. After the debate at approximately 11:10 AM EST when the tally was rechecked, ABC showed Ron Paul had just 445 votes. Second was “Nobody Won. I’m Voting Democratic.”

Of course, it could all be an innocent gliche, and perhaps ABC will explain these tallies or see fit to rectify them. But it has long been FMNN’s contention, along with others, that Ron Paul, an old fashioned Jeffersonian conservative, would serve as a metaphor and magnifying glass for America’s current political difficulties and expanding corruption.

To set the stage for the debate, ABC moderators began with polling numbers that showed Ron Paul at just two percent, yet the numbers on the ABC website, at 10 AM EST and again at the end of the debate (before the tally was reduced), showed him winning the debate, as he has before, by a wide margin.

Update: DrudgeReport.com put up a post-debate poll that showed Ron Paul winning the debate by wide margins (with 45% of the vote) as of 12:30 PM EST. Ron Paul continued to pull away in the ABC TV poll as well, despite the apparent tampering.

Virginia Tech Shooting -- Gun Bans Are The Problem, Not The Solution

“When will we learn that being defenseless is a bad defense,” asked Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America?

“All the school shootings that have ended abruptly in the last ten years were stopped because a law-abiding citizen -- a potential victim -- had a gun,” Pratt said.

“The latest school shooting demands an immediate end to the gun-free zone law which leaves the nation’s schools at the mercy of madmen. It is irresponsibly dangerous to tell citizens that they may not have guns at schools. The Virginia Tech shooting shows that killers have no concern about a gun ban when murder is in their hearts.

“Not far from Virginia Tech a killer was stopped at the Appalachian School of Law when two students were able to go off campus to their vehicles and get their guns which they used to subdue the killer. Sadly, not even that awkward defense was available at Virginia Tech.

“Isn’t it interesting that Utah and Oregon are the only two states that allows faculty to carry guns on campus. And isn’t it interesting that you haven’t read about any school or university shootings in Utah or Oregon?. Why not? Because criminals don’t like having their victims shoot back at them,” Pratt said. “That’s why the American people want an end to this ineffective gun ban.”

Pollsters have found that 85% of Americans would find it appropriate for a principal or teacher to use “a gun at school to defend the lives of students” to stop a school massacre (Research 2000 poll).

The words of Virginia Tech spokesman, Larry Hincker, should be haunting him in the wake of the massacre at his school. Last year, a bill was killed in the Virginia legislature to enable those with concealed weapons permits to carry their guns at schools. Hincker said that “I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”

“Gun Owners of America has called on Congress to repeal its deadly law requiring gun free school zones,” said Pratt. “Likewise, the call has been made to state legislatures to enact legislation enabling people with concealed carry permits to be able to have their weapons with them in schools.”

The Hon. Ron Paul House of Representatives on Real Time with Bill Maher

Congressman Ron Paul's FREEDOM PRINCIPLES

Rights belong to individuals, not groups.

Property should be owned by people, not government.

All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.

The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.

Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.

The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.

Why Do Evangelicals Ignore Ron Paul?

by Chuck Baldwin

Evangelical Christians are already beginning the process of selecting the Republican presidential candidate whom they can anoint as their successor to George W. Bush. Somehow, evangelicals have this deluded idea that President Bush is one of them. How they came to this delusion both fascinates and escapes me. Bush is anything but one of them. However, most evangelicals believe he is, and today it seems that illusion is greater than reality, anyway. Bush proves that more than anyone I have ever known. But enough about Bush.

The question burning in the minds of evangelicals today is: Which Republican candidate for president will we anoint? There are several possibilities, but apparently Congressman Ron Paul is not one of them.

Ron Paul received his Bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College. He received his MD from Duke University. He began his OB/GYN career in 1968. He was also an Air Force Captain and a member of the Air National Guard.

Ron Paul has served as a conservative congressman from Texas for over 16 years. He currently has a 100% rating from The Conservative Index, which is probably the most relevant and accurate reflection of a congressman's true conservative record out there.

Furthermore, unlike most Republicans, Paul's commitment to the life issue is more than rhetoric. For example, during the 2005 congressional session, Rep. Paul introduced H.R. 776, entitled the "Sanctity of Life Act of 2005."

Had it passed, H.R. 776 would have recognized the personhood of all unborn babies by declaring, "human life shall be deemed to exist from conception." The bill also recognized the authority of each State to protect the lives of unborn children. In addition, H.R. 776 would have removed abortion from the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, thereby nullifying the Roe v Wade decision, and would have denied funding for abortion providers. In plain language, H.R. 776 would have ended abortion on demand. (It is more than interesting to me that none of the evangelicals' pet politicians, including George W. Bush, even bothered to support Paul's pro-life bill.)

In addition, Ron Paul has been the most outspoken defender of constitutional government in the entire congress-bar none. He has often stood virtually alone against federal abuse of power, corruption, and big government.

Currently, Ron Paul is one of only a handful of congressmen that dares speak out against the emerging North American Union, NAFTA superhighway, and the Security and Prosperity Partnership agreement, all of which are being promoted by the White House in concert with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Speaking of the CFR, two of the U.S. senators listed as presidential candidates in Jerry Falwell's Liberty Journal, Chuck Hagel and John McCain, are current members of the CFR.

For his entire political career, Ron Paul has served foursquare upon the principles of constitutional (limited) government, less taxation, right to life, and personal liberty. Ron Paul is a conservative's conservative, a principled constitutionalist of the finest order. How is it, then, that Jerry Falwell and other evangelicals ignore him?

However, the truth is, neither Gingrich, Giuliani, Romney, nor McCain deserves the support of principled conservatives. Each of these men has numerous examples of failure and compromise of essential conservative values.

An American Auto Graveyard

By Patrick J. Buchanan

On Valentine's Day, Chrysler sent a bouquet to its North American workers. Eleven thousand manufacturing jobs will be eliminated in the next 24 months – 9,000 in the states and 2,000 in Canada – and 2,000 white-collar workers will be let go, permanently.

The SUV assembly plant in Newark, Del., will be closed. The Warren, Mich., truck plant and South St. Louis assembly plant will each lose one of their two shifts. Earlier, Ford posted the largest loss of any company in history, $12.7 billion, breaking GM's record $10.6 billion loss in 2005.

Toyota, having swept by Chrysler and Ford, is challenging GM for first in sales in the U.S. market. When we were growing up, U.S. automakers had the entire U.S. market to themselves and dominated the world market.

How is Japan succeeding?

First, the Japanese make fine cars. Second, Japan manipulates its currency to keep it cheap against the dollar, to keep the price of Japanese autos below comparable U.S. models. Third, Tokyo maintains a lock on its home market by imposing a value added tax on auto imports from America, and rebating that tax on autos and parts exported to America. This double-subsidy can give a Japanese car a 15 percent price advantage over a Ford or GM car in both markets.

Fourth, Japanese auto companies setting up plants here are free of "legacy costs" of pensions and health insurance for retired U.S. workers, for Japanese companies have almost no retired American workers. Legacy costs at GM, Ford and Chrysler must be factored into the price of every car.

Finally, there is the venerable practice of "transfer pricing." Japanese auto parts manufacturers overcharge U.S subsidiaries for parts. This cuts the profits of their U.S subsidiaries and thus reduces their U.S. corporate taxes. Profits are repatriated, virtually untaxed, to Japan.

Thus is Japan capturing America's auto market and bringing down the great companies that built the machines of war that brought down Japan's empire. Revenge is a dish best eaten cold.

To stay competitive in their own home market, U.S. manufacturers are closing down plants, laying off American workers and building their cars outside the United States.

The day before Chrysler's announcement, the Census Bureau trade figures were released. Charles MacMillion of MBG Information Services had them broken down before they hit the wires.

In 2006, the United States ran a deficit in traded goods of $836 billion, a fifth-straight world record. For manufactured goods, the U.S. trade deficit reached $536 billion, worsening from the 2005 record of $504 billion. Under President Bush, 3 million U.S. manufacturing jobs have disappeared – one in every six.

To understand what is happening to Chrysler, Ford and GM, one need only glance at the trade figures in the auto sector. The United States ran a trade deficit in trucks, autos and auto parts of $144.7 billion.

If America continues on this course, where we have run up $4 trillion in trade deficits in manufactured goods since Bill Clinton took office, the end is predictable.

An eventual collapse of the dollar, making us a poorer nation. The shuttering of every U.S. factory that makes traded goods. A constant hemorrhaging of manufacturing jobs, now down to 10 percent of our labor force. An end of America's pre-eminence as the world's foremost industrial and technological power. An end to the Second American Century, as the Asian Century begins.

Everything some have been warning about for decades – huge trade deficits, a falling dollar, de-industrialization, a rising dependence on foreigners for the vital necessities of our national life, diminished freedom of action concomitant with that dependency – has come to pass.

The world is witnessing the passing of the United States as the greatest industrial power and the most self-sufficient republic the world had ever seen. Yet, no one acts. Why?

Ideology is one reason. Free-trade fanatics are like those devout Christians who will not undergo surgery, even if their malady is killing them. Second, there are the obtuse who simply cannot see that our "trade partners" have found a way around the rules and are skinning us alive.

Third, to gain and hold high office, candidates of both parties depend on the contributions of a monied elite, whose salaries, bonuses, stock options and golden parachutes depend on a rising share price, which means constantly cutting costs by moving production out of United States and getting rid of high-wage American workers.

There are rewards for economic treason.

Look for the Democrats to find a way to give Bush – despite the astonishing record of trade failures documented above – fast-track authority to negotiate still more such trade deals. Who takes the king's shilling becomes the king's man.

Robert E. Lee at 200

by Gail Jarvis

The 200th anniversary of the birth of Robert E. Lee occurs on January 19th, and this year the number and variety of Lee celebrations may set a new record. In Britain, the American Civil War Round Table will hold a series of lectures honoring General Lee during the month of January. In America, commemorative events are planned throughout the year.

Lee celebrations have proliferated in recent years despite demands for the removal of Lee memorabilia by local chapters of the NAACP and other militant groups. The self-serving rhetoric of these groups has provoked others to commit acts of vandalism resulting in the smashing of Lee statuary and the firebombing of murals containing depictions of the General.

Lee admirers are sorely disappointed by the capitulations of elected officials to demands by these belligerent activists. Rather than making an effort to defend Lee memorabilia or allowing the public to decide its fate, many elected officials have simply caved in to removal demands, often covertly eliminating Lee tributes to avoid public recriminations – such was the case when then Texas Governor, George W. Bush conspired with his crony, Texas Supreme Court Justice, Albert Gonzales, to have a Robert E. Lee plaque furtively removed from the Texas Supreme Court building on a weekend when the Court was not in session.

Regrettably, Bush’s deceitful act is typical of many of our politicians. They are ruled by political expediency, and will not do anything that has not been scrutinized by spin doctors who evaluate how interest groups might react; how media will respond, or what the potential impact on political careers might be. So what we get is a committee-sanctioned maneuver designed to conceal the politician’s true actions or to allow him to give the appearance of having taken a stand without actually doing so.

Our leaders were not always so weak-willed in prior generations. And, I maintain, they had a better grasp of history than today’s crop of obsequious political hacks. As an illustration, I offer a letter from President Eisenhower written in response to a critic. The complainant’s letter, dated August 1, 1960, takes issue with President Eisenhower’s expressed admiration for Robert E. Lee and reads as follows:

Dear Mr. President:

"At the Republican Convention I heard you mention that you have the pictures of four (4) great Americans in your office, and that included in these is a picture of Robert E. Lee.

I do not understand how any American can include Robert E. Lee as a person to be emulated, and why the President of the United States of America should do so is certainly beyond me.

The most outstanding thing that Robert E. Lee did was to devote his best efforts to the destruction of the United States Government, and I am sure that you do not say that a person who tries to destroy our Government is worthy of being hailed as one of our heroes.

Will you please tell me just why you hold him in such high esteem?"

Sincerely yours,

Leon W. Scott, DDS
New Rochelle, NY

To his credit, President Eisenhower did not embarrass his correspondent by correcting his extraordinary misreading of American history but simply explained why he held Robert E. Lee in such high regard.

August 9, 1960

Dear Dr. Scott:

Respecting your August 1 inquiry calling attention to my often expressed admiration for General Robert E. Lee, I would say, first, that we need to understand that at the time of the War Between the States the issue of Secession had remained unresolved for more than 70 years. Men of probity, character, public standing and unquestioned loyalty, both North and South, had disagreed over this issue as a matter of principle from the day our Constitution was adopted.

General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America; he was thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, forbearing with captured enemies but ingenious, unrelenting and personally courageous in battle, and never disheartened by a reverse or obstacle. Through all his many trials, he remained selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his belief in God. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history.

From deep conviction I simply say this: a nation of men of Lee’s caliber would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the nation’s wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.

Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of this great American on my office wall.

Sincerely,
Dwight D. Eisenhower

When we compare Eisenhower’s actions with the behavior of our current politicians, we can only feel a sense of loss. Today’s elected officials have been so intimidated by the politically correct pestilence that has infected our nation that they would never casually express an opinion on any subject for fear that it might offend someone, somewhere. But President Eisenhower belonged to another generation, and his respectful response to his obtuse critic is what we would have expected from a man who had Robert E. Lee as a role-model. Certainly, it would be hard to find a better role-model than Robert E. Lee, a noble Christian gentleman who continues to inspire Americans almost 140 years after his death.

Racist Ingrates

J. B. Cash's Column

Pictured: Penn State head coach Joe Paterno covered for Larry Johnson's antics in college, but Johnson and other black players prefer to play for black coaches

(1/6/07) On a recent airing of HBO's “Inside the NFL," one of the show's hosts, Cris Carter, asked star running back Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs if he felt that he and other black players play harder for black coaches. His answer was "yes." Johnson went on to say that only a black coach could understand the "struggles" a black athlete has to endure.

This surprising revelation should serve as an important point of information to all of the white coaches in the NFL and elsewhere. They should not recruit, draft, or hire black players and select white players instead. Why? They will be assured of getting players that will play hard for them and not worry that they don’t understand their “struggles” — which include million dollar contracts, media worship, fan adoration, and near unrestricted protection from criminal prosecution.

Really, if what Larry Johnson says is true, and it probably is (although that makes the coaching career of Denny Green a mystery), then white coaches best beware and start filling the roster with people who are not such thinly veiled racists that they would allow the skin color of their coach to affect how they play.

Once again a black man says something that, were a white player to say it, would be front page news and the sports establishment would be “up in arms” over the comment and the racism it explicitly advocates. But we live in “DOUBLE-STANDARD WORLD” where blacks are free to express any anti-white sentiment they wish with no repercussions, while even the most innocuous remarks about race are professional suicide for whites.

Imagine if a white player were to say: “I think white players play harder for white coaches”. WOW! Now that would get some attention. Any white player saying such a thing would of course be absolutely pilloried. His remarks would be universally denied, even if they were true. He would face unrelenting criticism until he recanted his comments and paid some humiliating price in groveling apologies to be allowed back into polite society. More likely, his professional football career would be over.

How important is it for a coach to have players that play hard for him? It probably is the most important thing in the game. Talent is usually pretty equal, especially in the pro game, and since football is the ultimate copycat sport there is usually little difference in basic coaching strategies. Thus it comes down to motivating a large group of primarily ghetto blacks with bad attitudes that have been spoiled and pampered all of their sporting lives, to give a few minutes of their time to actually catch, block, and tackle, so as to win a football game.

If I were an owner of a football team I would immediately fire all my white coaches and hire black ones in their places. The reason? I would want every edge I could get to win games and Larry Johnson has just let everyone in on a little secret that could make the difference between winning and losing.

The other strategy, that of dumping black players in place of white ones, is a better way to go, in that you would be surrounding yourself with better people. Unfortunately that solution is impractical, as there are so few white players to choose from due to anti-white recruiting practices by college coaches. Also, any attempt to hire white football players at the expense of black players is considered racist while firing white coaches and hiring black ones would be considered ‘enlightened.’

White coaches should get “enlightened” and realize that the clock is ticking for them. Blacks will lobby for their own tirelessly and with no criticism from the media. That is going to ratchet up the pressure to hire black coaches even higher. Unless the white coach wants to go the way of the white running back they better wake up and hear what is being said. Their only option is to pick the people who WILL play hard for them. They know who that is.

White coaches, however, are beset with the plantation mindset. They think that since they oversee the plantation the workers will “like” them and respect them. What the workers (and “worker” is used here merely as a euphemism, very little actual “work” is being done) like and respect is the position the coach has over them. Don’t think for a minute that they wouldn’t revolt and replace the white overlord with one of their own.

White people think, mistakenly, that because black people need them to handle those tasks that white people are so good at, that black people WANT them to be there to help. Nope!

As Larry Johnson admits, without actually elaborating on the point, is that no matter how much white coaches have helped black kids throughout the football maturation process from pee-wee to the pros...no matter how many times white coaches have junked the careers of white players in favor of lesser black players...no matter how much help they have received from white support staff throughout their phony “student-athlete” college careers...they have absolutely not one whit of thanks or gratitude. It’s just: “Thanks for the help sucker! Now stand aside while we get one of our own in here and you white dudes can go to hell.”

Thanks, Larry, for the heads up. White people need to know that their help and assistance will get them nothing but disrespect and ingratitude. It’s a message that more white people are starting to hear loud and clear. It’s about time.

FEDERAL HATE BILL COULD BE INTRODUCED THIS WEEK

By Rev. Ted Pike

With Congress back in session on January 3, the federal "hate crimes" bill could be reintroduced any time. The Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith introduced the same legislation last January 6, three days after Congress convened.

This is the most dangerous legislation ever to come before Congress. It leads directly to an end of free speech. Once free speech is gone, there is little to prevent the loss of all our other freedoms. The new Democrat-controlled Congress has all the votes it needs to quickly run this Orwellian bill through committee in the House and Senate and pass it. Unless they lose their nerve, thrown back by massive protest from the American people.

Extraordinary action must be taken NOW to back down ADL and intimidate them from even introducing the hate bill in this session.

Your Voice Will Make the Difference

Protest from the American people has defeated the hate bill three times in the last two years. Here's how, with God’s help, we can do it again:

1) Powerfully impact members of Congress from your district:

At www.truthtellers.org are listed the names of the top legislative aides for every member of Congress (except the newly elected members). These legal experts and researchers exert tremendous influence on how busy senators and representatives think and vote. Now you can just as powerfully influence them!

  • At www.truthtellers.org your two Senators and their aides are listed alphabetically according to state. House members and their aides are separately listed the same way.

  • On the list, locate the House member for your district. (If you don't know your district, call the capitol hotline tollfree at 1-877-851-6437 or toll at 1-202-225-3121. This information is also available by calling your local library or at www.house.gov/writerep.)

  • Print out both sides of NPN's brochure "Hate Laws Will Make You a Criminal," available on the home page at www.truthtellers.org.

  • Make about 30 copies, enough to send to each member of the Senate and House from your district plus their aides. Fold into thirds.

  • Address each name and tape (do not staple) the flyer closed, add postage and mail.

Because you are a constituent of these members of Congress and their aides, you have considerable influence. You have power to vote them out next term and power to end the aides' employment. When they see your zip code, they will read the flyer. It will deeply impact them because all they have heard so far is ADL propaganda. These brochures will burrow deep into every legislative office, raising questions, doubts, fears and curiosity about ADL's hate crimes agenda.

Don't hesitate to send this brochure to liberal members of Congress or their aides. Hate laws can turn on them also. Already in many western nations liberals who publicly criticize Islam can be indicted as hate criminals. If enough of these brochures penetrate Congress, the effect will be to prejudice even liberal members of Congress and their staffs against the ADL hate crimes agenda. (Note: Do not send this brochure to members of Congress or their aides outside your district. Nonconstituent mail is discarded.)

2) Influence all members of Congress:

  • Begin toll-free phone calls to Congress on January 3. Visit www.truthtellers.org for the complete list of members of the new Congress. Set aside 15 minutes a day (before work or during lunch) to call toll-free 1-877-851-6437 or 1-866-340-9281 (toll is 1-202-225-3121).

  • Leave this message: "Please don’t vote for 'anti-hate' legislation. Hate laws have taken away free speech in Canada and most European countries." Ask to be transferred to the next member of Congress on the list or use the redial feature on your phone. In only 15 minutes a day for 7 weeks, you can voice a powerful protest to every member of Congress against establishment of a "big brother" federal hate crimes bureaucracy like Canada's.
