Vault 0

The corporations are always trying to protect themselves and their assets. The vaults are this in its purest form. The vaults were built by Ares Macrotechnology to ensure the survival of the corporation’s personelle and assets in the event of a nuclear war. They contain the most advanced technology available to the corporation and are among the most heavily protected and secret of Ares' assets.

Vault 0 was supposed to be the nerve center of the vault network and houses the super computer code-named the Calculator. The Calculator was the main system that controlled every aspect of the vault and was charged with maintaining the vault's systems and keeping a complete record of technology so that Ares may make use of it after the war was over. The vaults were equipped with supplies and facilities to produce and employ advanced

weaponry of every kind.

Vault 0 is located directly beneath the city of Chicago and occupies a total area equal to that of 5 Renraku Arcologies. It would have been home to over 250000 people but then the insect spirits exploded into Chicago. The subsequent subterranean nuclear detonation caused power surge in the vault and caused Calculator's advanced programming to become self-aware and also severed its connection to the other vaults. Calculator saw the nuclear attack as being directed at itself and quickly brought the entire vault online. The insect spirits entered the vault and killed all the meta human personelle as they worked franticly to shut Calculator down. Calculator saw this as an act of friendship or at least toward a common good and invited the most powerful queen insect spirits to move into the vault. The queens immediately accepted and infested the lower, most remote levels of the vault. The arrangement provided physical protection for the bugs and magical security for the vault. (Only true form spirits inhabit the vault, the calculator has refused to allow flesh forms to reside there. The vaults security factories began churning out drones made from the most advanced technology. The partnership of the AI and the insect spirits flourished, as they had no reason to be enemies and every reason to be friends and stick together. The calculator permitted the queens to maintain control and possession of their shamans for more versatile security. Calculator was able to protect sensitive areas of the vault and regulate the movement of the bugs by using its fab systems. The bugs ignored the fab systems because they offered them a defense against the strain 3 whish ARES deployed into the containment zone above. The Calculator then began dispatching semi-sentient programs into the matrix to hunt down and acquire new technology wherever possible for the Calculator's advancement. The Calculator employed its existing drone force to secure itself physically while it started construction of new super advanced automated forces. Its initial drone force consisted of every kind of drone under Ares production, including Steel Lynx, Guardian, Sentinal P, Doberman, Ferret RPD, and Salamander drones. The new drones consisted of Anthroforms built to duplicate and exceed human capacities for work and combat. The anthroforms armed themselves from the extensive Ares armory of the vault. The next drones to be produced were the spider style drones for both repairs and combat, then followed flying heavy suppression drones, and finally the heavy combat drones. The drones began their assignments and Calculator has continuously updated them. The drones are operated by knowbots so advanced that they border on possessing AI themselves. The Calculator made the most unexpected move of all. It began implanting cyberware into the bodies of the insect shamans. The new

cybernetic shamans proved to be a valuable asset in the defense of both the vault and the hives within. The cyberware Calculator designed and built was so advanced that it didn't reduce the shaman's magic ratings by any really meaningful amount and the insect spirits readily agreed to the enhancements. The bugs continued to bring the vault supplies and Calculator continued to defend and update the defenses. Radical new technologies emerged as well as previously designed but never produced Ares designs that had been stored within Calculator's memory banks. Ares lost a lot of valuable designs and even a major credit account to Calculator. Calculator also completed several unfinished Ares research projects such as none magical spirit killing ammunition and weapons. The team of Calculator and the bugs had become a winner and has to this day remained a secret of Ares Macrotechnology.

Calculator

Calculator only exists in it's home node where it posses almost godlike power and complete control. Calculator's stealthy programs roam the matrix soaking up data and bringing back new technology to be researched and implemented by Calculator thus ensuring that Vault 0 is always state of the art and advancing at impossible speed.

Drones

Calculator handles the physical security of the vault with Drones. The drones are operated by knowbots that are so advanced that they are almost sentient themselves. (Treat as a sentient creature that is completely loyal to Calculator and cannot be turned or bribed) Calculator possesses many standard production Ares drones and a few of it's own design. New drones stats are shown below. All drones skills are GM discretion but are normally high and all drones have the latest integration and combat systems available. All drones sensors are considered to be state of the art.

Anthroforms

The anthroform drones are used to perform human tasks such as structural repairs and combat. They are armed with a minimum of an assault rifle.

Spider Drones

there are 2 types of spider drones with 2 very different purposes. The first is about the size of a small rodent (about 2 inches) and is equipped with advanced nanotech tools for working on the vault's electronics and drones. The larger spider drones are built for recon and combat. They can burrow under ground where they are undetectable except by metal detector. They then spring out and ambush their target. Their reinforced armor and enhanced strength ensure that they can bring down even the most heavily armored targets.

Behemoth Drone

These drones are walker in style and are about the same size as a large van. They are intended for combat but are often employed as "beasts of burden" due to their immense strength and pulling capacity. They mount a set of twin

linked. .50 caliber machine guns that it fires as if they didn’t even exist. The behemoth is equipped with stealth camouflage so it doesn't stick out as much.

The Bugs

The queen spirits are housed in the most remote parts of Vault 0 and kept separate as to prevent any conflicts between queen spirits. The remoteness of the queens make sure that any conflict that does erupt is confined to astral space and does not enter the vault. Calculator regulates the bugs by using the vault's internal fab systems. The fab systems also serve to keep the bugs out of Vault 0’s sensitive areas. (Like the primary computer core) While Calculator does believe in the alliance between the bugs and the vault, Calculator is not stupid and has taken measures to protect itself from its very alien ally as well as from Ares. Calculator has an intricate insecticide/fab/strain 3B dispersal system that extends to every point of the vault and it has also been developing mundane weapons and ammunition that can affect spirits to a great extent. Calculator will not tolerate treason on the part of the bugs and has secretly become a threat to them as well. There are no predatory bug spirits (mantis, spider, scorpion, and hornet) in Vault 0. The other bugs have so far kept them out.

Shadowrunners

So why would anybody willingly go to a place like Vault 0? Profit. The vault houses a great deal which the corporations would pay millions to get their hands on; including Calculator's radically advanced technology. Then there is the 25 million Nuyen credit account that Ares lost when Calculator severed their ties. Then there the bug hunters who are looking for hives and stumble across the vault, or someone may follow the trail of a missing person to Vault 0. Ares may hire a team to go in. Anything is possible.

Olympus Hotel

History

10 years ago, an elf by the name of Victor Goldman immigrated to Seattle from the isle of green, Tir na Nog, bringing with him only the cloths on is back and roughly 23.8 million nuyen. He established himself as one of the most prominent businessmen in the UCAS. Then he was gone. Three years later, in the Cascade Mountains, a hotel was being erected. No attempts were ever made to end the construction. The Olympus appeared to be empty for several years and no information was ever leaked to whom it was leased. The only thing the public knew for sure was that Goldman was back. Three days after it was finished, he walked into the Seattle Stock Exchange and wiped it clean, buying out several small corporations. Eight days after he returned, he retired to business in the Cascades. Then in 2059, Victor Dumont Goldman was found dead of unknown causes. The hotel went up for sale and remained so for roughly a year. After that time, a nameless suit bought the hotel in the hopes of re-capturing the legacy of the great businessman and opened it to the public. He was found dead on the kitchen floor 3 days after the purchase. He had been gutted, but no weapon was ever found, and the only at the scene was the body, and it never made it to the hospital. Rumors began circulating that the place was haunted, it was never re-opened, and was closed to all of the corporations. Another rumor claimed that Goldman had been some kind of mage of the ancient world and that there were spell and other artifacts at the 200th floor. A team of shadowrunners headed by a merc named Black Spyre entered the hotel. The only one to come out was a shaman by the name of Richter Vinous. He raved on about the creatures in the dark, evil spirits, and other nightmares. It was all recorded but he died two months later in a Lone Star prison cell. Then soon after the UCAS government took interest in the case, the hotel was not to be found anywhere. An official report was released and the file was closed.

The Inhabitants

These are the inhabitants of the Olympus Hotel as told by Richter Vinous.

"Doppelgangers"

The doppelganger is a genetically altered form of the human species, malformed and enhanced by magical feedback in the areas of concentrated emotion. Typical forms included hulking man/wolf forms, devils, malformed animals, and children. Doppelgangers can be found throughout the hotel, most are either fallen construction workers, lost shadowrunners, or other people who have succumbed to the taint of the hotel.

"Shades"

Think of the worst thing you can, then make it real. Then think about it being able to make you invisible to your friends, just so it can single you out. The ones that came for my team were massive beasts with black fur, with heads of demons and massive claws caked with dried blood. They came for us in a pack of four, charging out of the dimly lit hallways and then disappearing to all but a few of us. Then those few also vanished. The creatures used power close to concealment and alienation, allowing us to be cut off from the rest of the team. The shades were not encountered until the 68th floor, but one of my team members told me one in the basement attacked him.

"The Lost Boys"

The ultimate downfall of the mission was that the hotel itself was able to trap and destroy us on its own. It did so by projecting images of wealth and other goods into our minds, causing us to hallucinate and lead us away from the team, leaving us to the lost boys. The lost boys were a small group of mutilated children who stumbled into the hotel and fell to its power. They wielded razors and small blades and moves with unnatural speed.

The Goods

On the top floor of the Olympus, it is rumored that thousands of pages of text and powerful spells, enchantments, and the true names of over 100 spirits can be found. Weather this is true or not, that's up to you. But what is for sure is that there is some weird drek going down in the Cascades, and it ain't looking any better than Chicago.

Game Master Info

All is not well in the Cascade Mountains. Victor Goldman is still alive and he has made his home on the farthest reaches of the grounds. From here he launches a one man war against the evil he let loose into the hotel. One year before he faked his death, Victor Goldman had finely managed to create a gate to another metaplane. He had hoped to use the gate to gather more power and indeed he did. After the gate opened, a spirit by the name of Fek came into the hotel through the gate. He taught Victor the true names of his enemies and Victor helped him slay those enemies. Soon after dealing with Fek, Victor was soon able to fuel his body with magic as well as cast spells. Another gift from Fek. Soon though, Fek began asking more and more of Victor and he became careless of his use of magic. Soon the astral space around the hotel became tainted and the corporate guests began to disappear one by one. That is when the Dopplegangers showed up and began terrorizing the remaining guests. Victor soon attempted to use his magic to send Fek back to his metaplane. He succeed but not before Fek could unleash the Shades and cursed the hotel and the surrounding area. Those souls that are pure that die would joint the ranks of the Lost Boys and those souls that were tainted would join the ranks of the Dopplegangers. Soon Victor wasn't able to think straight and Fuchi faked his death for him, took his assets, and left him alone with nothing. The gate now swirls and taints the astral plane around the Olympus Hotel. It is hidden from all by a powerful spell placed upon it by Goldman to prevent any who should wander by from seeing it unless they are deemed worthy.
