BIGGS, Myron Wilbur -Prvt

Son of Sanford and Sarah Biggs; born 16-Feb-1892@Columbia City, Indiana. Upon entering service on 15-Oct-1918 @ Valparaiso, he was living on a farm near Hebron. Sent to Rolling Prairie, IN; assigned to Motor Truck Transport Unit. Contracted influenza and died on 28-Dec-1918 @ Rolling Prarie. Buried in Hebron


FRIDAY, Leo W. - Prvt

Son of Henry J. and Fredreicka Friday; born 22-Aug-1891 @ Chesterton, Porter county,Indiana. Electrician. Living in Rock Island, Illinois when called to service on 27-Jun-1918. Sent to Camp Grant, IL. Embarked for overseas, 08-Sep-1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 343rd Infantry. Stricken with pneumonia, he was removed to a hospital near Bordeaux where he died 05-Oct-1918. Buried in Soldiers' Cemetery, near Bordeaux


GABLE, Martin J. - Prvt.

Son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Gable; born 06-Jul-1890 @ Valparaiso, Porter Co. Indiana. Plasterer. Entered service 20-Sep-1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Company I, Indiana National Guard. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Sent overseas in June of 1918; assigned to Company A, 151st Infantry. Took part in Champagne Marne Drive and fought in Lorraine Sector. Died 05-Jul-1918 from wounds received in action. Body returned to US in March 1921. Buried in Valparaiso.


GILLESPIE, Loring - Quartermaster 2nd Class

Son of Charles E. and Ethel Gillespie; born 16-Oct-1884 @ New York City. Served in US Navy 1906-1910. Discharged. Living in Valparaiso when he re-enlisted on 09-Nov-1917 @ Chicago. Sent to Commonwealth Pier, Boston, MA; assigned to duty on patrol boat Yacona. Stricken with pneumonia; removed to Naval Hospital, Charleston, SC where he died on 12-Oct-1918. Buried at Valparaiso. Survived by widow, Pauline Tyler Gillespie and two sons, Loring Paul and Vernon Charles, all of Valparaiso.


HAYES, Lester P. - Prvt.

Son of Grant (deceased by 1921) and Minnie M. Hayes; born 23-Sep-1896, Valparaiso. Automobile Mechanic. Entered service 12-Dec-1917 @ Valparaiso. Sent to Camp Sevier, SC; assigned to 2nd Engineering Corps. Stricken with pneumonia and died 23-Jan-1918 @ Base Hospital, Camp Sevier, SC. Buried in Catholic Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN.


JOHNSON, Arthur T. - 1st Lieut.

Son of John Alfred (deceased by 1921) and Hulda Johnson; born 31-Mar-1896 @ Porter, Porter Co. IN. Graduated from Augustana College (Illinois)in 1917. Entered Aviation service on 20-Apr-1917 @ Springfield, Illinois. Sent to Ft. Sill, OK - transferred to Hempstead, NJ. Commissioned First Lieutenant in US Signal Corps. Sent overseas in December of 1917. Killed in action on 12-Sep-1918, Battle of St. Mihiel. Buried in American Cemetery No. 1233, Sec. 6, Plot 4, Grave 174.


KLEIN, Harry J. - Prvt.

Son of Frank H. and Lena Klein; born 04-Mar-1891, Valparaiso. Factory Foreman. Enlisted in Company F, 3rd Infantry, Indiana National Guard - Battery F, 137th Field Artillery on 28-May-1917 @ South Bend, IN. Sent to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for training. Contracted pneumonia and died 27-Dec-1917 @ Camp Shelby. Buried @ Maplewood Cemetery, Valparaiso.


LUNDBERG, Axel - Prvt.

Son of William and Elida Lundberg; born 17-Dec-1896 @ Chicago. Moved to Porter county in 1908 and settled on a farm near Valparaiso. Entered service 26-Aug-1918 @ Valparaiso. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 23rd Company, 6th Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Stricken with pneumonia and died 05-Oct-1918 @ Camp Sherman. Buried in Chesterton, Porter county, IN
