provides fire protection and emergency medical service (EMS) to the City
of Danville serving 33,838 people within an area of 16.8 square miles.
The membership of the department today totals 63 firefighter and officers.

SUPPRESSION DIVISION
The Suppression Division
consists of all officers and firefighters that are directly involved with
responding to emergencies such as fire, hazmat, EMS calls on a daily
basis.
The Suppression Division is broken down into three Battalions. Each Battalion
works a 24 hour shift and is off duty for the next 48 hours. Each Battalion
is made up of one Battalion Chief, one Battalion Captain, three Lieutenants,
and fourteen firefighters. The on-duty crews are housed in four fire
stations located throughout the city for minimum response time to any emergency
so that at least one engine company can reach the scene without crossing
rail road tracks that divide the city.
FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU
The Fire Prevention Bureau
provides many services to the community including Inspections, Fire Safety
Education Programs, Plan Reviews, Code Enforcement, Juvenile Firesetter's

Inspections
Inspections that are conducted by the Fire Prevention Bureau include those
involving new occupancies and construction. The bureau also performs all
complaint and follow-up inspections. Engine Companies perform annual walk
through inspections of occupancies in their response district.
Fire Safety Education
Speakers are available for any group from children to senior citizens. The
department also utilizes a fire safety house for pre-schoolers through 3rd
grade. Danville Firefighters Local 429 annually purchases 5,000 coloring
books and helmets for distribution to area schools and children.
TRAINING DIVISION
The Training Division of
the Danville Fire Department is operated by Capt. Larry Jaggers (217) 431-2356. This includes ongoing training in many
areas including firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials,
and rescue.
