Own an original Chevron sweater by purchasing a hand-knitted beaded sweater pictured below or a custom made sweater. Perhaps you would rather knit a unique sweater and apply the beads yourself. If so, purchase the pattern, or a kit that includes yarn and beads. The patterns, which are sold for $11.00 each (includes postage), comes with a "Big Eye" that is instrumental for threading the beads on the yarn. The patterns come in three styles: shell, sweater with sleeves (shown above), and the vest, which is open in the front.

The Chevron is so unique that KKS has received a visual art copyright for its design.

For comfort, the one-of-a-kind Chevron sweaters are made almost entirely of cotton yarns.

The sweaters have neither a front nor back; each side gives a different appearance.

The Chevron can be worn as a shell or vest.

Each Chevron comes with coordinated custom-made earrings.

Chevron 11

KKS used a variegated yarn of blues, rust, and burnt oranges as the main cotton yarn in Chevron 11. She chose solid blue cottons to emphasize the blues in the variegated yarn.

In her search for beads, KKS found the perfect match of a handmade polymer bead that echoes the colors in the variegated yarn. Other beads include blue coral, glass, clay, stone, and wood. A few of the beads were purchased by KKS' relatives on a recent trip in Turkey.

Size - small. Price $445.00.

Chevron 13

Chevron 13 is a show stopper for those who have seen it in KKS' booth. Yarns of various textures are used in this all black sweater. The main fiber is cotton. Some of the textured yarns include nylon, viscose, and other mixed fibers. The use of furnace glass beads (also called art glass) makes this sweater so striking in appearance. Clear glass surrounds black centers in these beads. You must see it!

Size - medium. Price $545.00.

Chevron 14

Chevron 14 is of gray yarns of varying fibers, most of which are cotton. The beads are mostly glass, stone, wood, and bone. Many of the beads are hand carved horn.

Size - small. Price $395.00.

Chevron 15

Chevron 15 is a display sweater that KKS uses in her booth at wearable art shows. The yarns are in the turquoise/purple/blue hues and are emphasized in the rayon and cotton variegated yarn that is used throughout the sweater.

The beads were especially chosen to display hand made glass beads. They include lampwork, fused, and dichroic glass. Several of the turquoise and purple beads are dyed nuts.

Size - petite. Price -- not for sale. Accepting custom orders.

Chevron 16

If you love earth tones, you will fall for Chevron 16. The colors are based on a rich brown cotton yarn. One very fine yarn has a slight touch of green. This yarn was so thin that three strands had to be used together when it was knitted. The beads on the sweater are mainly nuts, wood, and stone. Picture Jasper beads were also used because of the earthy colors in them.

Size - medium. Price $395.00.

Chevron 21

Chevron 21 is unusual in that it is entirely turquoise in color. KKS used mostly cotton yarn in this chevron. One yarn is a blend of cotton and merino wool. The beads are mostly glass. A few of them are dichroic glass.

Size - medium. Price $445.00.

Chevron 22

Chevron 22 is a vest and is the only Chevron style that is not a shell. A matching black skirt is available for purchase. KKS used a variety of cotton yarns in Chevron 22. One yarn is a blend of cotton and rayon fibers. The beads are glass. They are either dichroic or foil beads.

Size - medium. Price $150.00; skirt is $50.00.

Chevron 25

Chevron 25 is one of KKS' favorite sweaters. It has the Asian influence of jade beads and china beads with an oriental design. One yarn is a blend of cotton and rayon fibers. Other fibers include acrylic, polyamide, and polyester.

Size - medium. Price $445.00

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How does one clean a Chevron?

Hand wash the sweater and lay it flat on a drying rack.

  Is it uncomfortable?

No, not at all! Chevrons are fun to wear. The beads are loosely attached and move when you lean against the chair back.

What is the method of payment?

Payment by personal check, money order or cashiers check. Lay away plans also are available. Sweaters will be shipped only after payment is received or personal check clears. Buyer pays for shipping and insurance.

  Can the sweaters be returned?

Yes, they can be returned within 14 days from the delivery confirmation date. Purchaser pays for return shipping and a 10 percent restocking fee.

  Do the beads come off?

On rare occasions a bead will come off. If that happens, use the "Big Eye" (comes with the sweater) to reattach the bead or to pull the end to the inside. The sweater will not ravel if a bead comes off.

How long does it take to make a Chevron?

KKS can knit one in about a month.

How much do the Chevrons cost?

The price varies by the number of beads used in the sweater and the selection of yarns. The prices for a completed sweater start at $445. Kits containing the pattern, yarn, and beads begin at $250.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

KKS enjoys hand knitting and creating beaded sweaters as a way to relieve stress from her employment as a federal government economist. Looking for unusual beads and yarn is also an outlet for her relaxation. She also enjoys other types of needlework, such as the forgotten art of tatting.

Her Chevron sweaters are so unique that KKS has received visual art copyrights for them. Each Chevron is a one-of-a-kind art item and has been photographed and catalogued accordingly. One of her beaded sweaters was recognized as the "Best Beaded Item" at a recent Baltimore Bead Society Show.

KKS is associated with the American Craft Council, the Potomac Craftsmen Guild, and the Potomac Craftsmen Fiber Gallery. She holds a doctorate degree in consumer economics and studied arts and textiles during her BS and MS degree programs in home economics.
