If You Flew To Toksook Bay
|
Today if you needed to
travel to our area in Rural Alaska you'd have to
fly. Why? Because road systems are nonexistent in
this part of the world. You'd have to use one of
the few commercial airlines that fly out regularly
to Toksook and the surrounding villages.
Below is an aerial shot of the village and the bay.
The pilot had to circle to see where the wind was
coming from. It was a bumpy ride and my fears were
maximized when we had to land from the south
side.

The Airport is in the
middle, right-side of this picture. It's shocking
for lots of new visitors when they see how close
the airport is to the village, not to mention how
short it is.

Approaching the airstrip
from the south side means that you have to fly
right over the cliffs and the Bering Sea. It's
never a good view when there's the slightest
turbulence.
