ECKZYLON

A Corner of the Net Universe

If one is looking for exciting graphics and sound, one has come to the wrong place. What we have available here are things I find interesting, and some of my attempts at creativity; hopefully you'll find something worthwhile. In addition to my accumulated APA 'zines we have an Archaic Computing page, a Web Comics page, RPG stuff, a Politics and Philosophy page, a page on General Weirdness and Neat Stuff, and a page on Science Fiction and Fantasy. Oh yes, and there's the Writings page, with attempts at fiction and essays and articles on all sorts of subjects that happen to have an RPG connection usually. Things will be added from time to time. We're starting to add the bells and whistles and wombats and that other stuff that makes the place a bit more visually interesting.

What's New?

We're in the process of revamping the site. I'm removing some large graphics that
do not add much to the esthetics of the pages, rechecking, removing, and adding
links, and pretty much doing janitor work. :) We shall hopefully add some new
content in times to come.

ARCHAIC COMPUTING

While the average person may be playing the latest and hottest games, I'm into Archaic Computing ; my games are stuff for the old ZX Spectrum or the Intellivision or even CHIP 8 programs. At this happy page I seem to be arguing that the whole purpose of human evolution was to create the Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer.

WEB COMICS

The World Wide Web is a picture medium, "Lynx" notwithstanding. So naturally there are Web Comics ; using pictures and in some cases animation and sound. I have links to some of my favorites and to a couple pages where you can see a whole slew of different comics. Modified Aug. 30; added a link.

ROLE PLAYING LINKS

The RPG Page features several articles on various role playing topics and ideas and a bunch of links. In addition to a variety of commercial and non-commercial pages, I have all the Interregnum contributor pages I could find; some include lots of non-RPG stuff, but things that are still of interest. Added a whole lot of links on January 3. 1999.

POLITICS & PHILOSOPHY

At the Eckzylon - Philosophy and Politics page one can read some of my views on Life, the Universe, and Everything. There's also a couple links with more to come as I check them out.

GENERAL WEIRDNESS AND NEAT STUFF

The General Weirdness and Neat Stuff page has links to things that I've found interesting and/or useful. Your tastes may vary. Modified Aug. 23, added links.

WRITINGS

Writings leads to several things I've written over time. Most have appeared in "The Eight Track Mind", but some of these are revised versions that improve on the originals. My most "famous" bit, "Vampires: The Varieties" is one of the writings here, and there's some fiction and observations and stuff that's pretty good, actually.

SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASY, AND STUFF

The Fantasy, SF, and Skiffy page has writings and links to stuff relating to fantastic fiction in writing and on TV. More stuff will be added here as time goes on. Corrected spelling of "skiffy", 8/23/98. :) Added an article on "SFTV Classics" Aug. 28. Added a credit to the page, Aug. 30.

THE EIGHT TRACK MIND

The Eight Track Mind is a "'zine" that I contributed to the InterregnumAPA (Amateur Press Association) for quite some time. Most of the stuff is RPG related, but there's also fiction, reviews, and commentary. The better bits are being rewritten and re-edited and posted to appropriate places in my little web place. All my 'zines except for 2,3, and 11 are now on the pages; they probably won't be put up but the more interesting parts are on other pages. These aren't in the original form; the "Comments" sections are gone as they are incomprehensible without the other IR 'zines being comment upon, and some of the content has been revised. Restored part of ETM #26, Sept. 6th. Corrected some things in ETM #22, Sept 9th, and did some more corrections, Sept 11th. Added the list of Interregnum contributors from the RPG page and a minor fiddle, October 11th.

As it happens, there's a quarterly publication calledEight Track Mind that's about eight track tapes and those devoted to them. Get info about it and a whole lot of neat stuff about eight tracks at 8 track Heaven ; there one can listen to a selected track via RealAudio, get lots of trivia, and find out the secret connection between eight track tapes and UFOs.
PREDICTIONS PAGE

Go to the Eckzylon - Predictions page to see the Future as I see it. Sort of.

BOSTON

That's where I live,Boston . Boston, Massachusetts, not the various others. Anyway, I put some links on that page so that you can find out all about the Boston Metro. Yes, we're educational, sort of.

THE FUTURE AND THE GROWTH OF PAGES

We'll be adding more stuff as time goes on; the easy part of adding and adapting my old "Eight Track Mind" material is done so we shall be getting into the more difficult but more creative stage. I will also be adding a whole slew of links to the appropriate areas.

FINAL THINGS

Everything on my pages is Copyright 1999 (or earlier); of course you can download stuff and link to it, but please don't distribute it yourself and most certainly don't distribute it yourself for money without permission. Let us also note that I mention things copyrighted and owned and trademarked by other entities; this is in no way a challenge to their rightful and honorable ownership rights. Standard stuff.

A program that allows those folk from the AOL ads who can't
work copiers and VCRs to make web pages.

Some re-editing with Netscape composer, when AOL Press mysteriously malfunctioned.
Turns out that AOL Press apparently doesn't like Windows 98 much. I'm going to be
experimenting with other methods of editing as I explore Freeware.

This is a nifty program that reduces the size of HTML files, which reduces download
times. Not hugely, but significantly. The one caveat I'd note about it is that the file
ends up looking kind of messy if you look at it with a text editor; if you decide to
re-write the code directly it could be annoying.

A lot of the graphics came from

which has a whole lot of good stuff.

The Mail Button came from Turbo Net's HTML Euphoria, which has lots of buttons and icons and Mozilla pics and things. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone away.

The "Writings" section background came from
which has lots of other art things.

Other backgrounds produced using a program called "Reptile" fromSausage Software. They sell a web editor called "Hot Dog" and they have other stuff on their site, including some freebies like "Reptile" and even some Shockwave games. Reptile is massively awesome by the way.

And without all that, the pages would be much more bland.

A site that allows you to submit your site to 34 different search engines, depending of course on appropriateness to the engine. Many of them I'd not heard of before.

Compliments? Complaints? Suggestions? Offers of money? Send them to me.
We don't guarantee replies, but we probably will reply. I might have a "comments" section in time; just give me an okay if you want your message considered for that.

Visits, more or less.
