Catalina 22
s/v Sharon Lee is a swing keel 1973 Catalina 22, purchased in March 2001. During the sailing season she is at a slip at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, north of Chicago IL (near Waukegan). She is the perfect boat for me- I can sail her easily by myself, or she can easily accomodate the family, even overnight! The 25 year old 8hp Mercury Mariner does a fine job pushing her along and charging the battery (assisted by a small solar panel). Sailing aboard her, on Lake Michigan or one of the smaller inland lakes is one of my favorite pastimes to share with the kids...
During the race season I race weekly on a friends Cape Dory 33.
The 2007 season seems like it is off to a slow start- weather, work, etc. But in the middle of July I am off to the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior and I am certain to have a superior time cruising the area and hopefully setting eyes on the five major light houses there!

Recent Log: July 16 2007
Anchored off Cat Is. in the Apostles. The starriest night sky I have ever seen!
A great day on the water- admired the light houses on Michigan Is and Outer Is.
10 hours and 39 miles. Mostly motoring.

It's what the poets say and the pictures show, and everything else, too; it's the joy of casting off and the delight of returning home, and it's all the winds and waves in between. It's the beauty of a boat and the power of the currents, the sound of ratcheting winches and the strain on the wheel; it's the fair breezes and sunsets, the storms and luffing sails. It's the beer in the bar when the race is done, and that moment when you feel you'll never get there. It's what sailors mean when, safe and dry, standing on solid ground, they look at you and say,
'I'd rather be sailing.'"
-Anne Depue

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
- Mark Twain
