Remedies for Heartburn

Heartburn is another common ailment of pregnancy. Be sure to always check with a healthcare provider before beginning any herbal treatment.

Heartburn Remedies:

  • Eat small meals more frequently. Avoid large meals and overeating.

  • Chew as much as possible with every bite of food. Try to eat slowly.

  • Try not to drink liquids with meals. Drink lots between meals.

  • Try to identify which foods give you the worst heartburn and eliminate them from your diet. Be wary of greasy and highly seasoned foods.

  • Stay away from coffee and cigarettes.

  • Don't lay down after eating.

  • Eat papaya after meals. You can eat it in any form. I've found that the enzyme tablets work very well, much better than over the counter heartburn remedies.

  • Eat yogurt, cream or milk.

  • Chew on raw almonds.

  • Eat a teaspoon of Slippery Elm powder mixed with honey. It neutralizes stomach acid and helps absorb intestinal gas. You can also use Slippery Elm throat lozenges, which you should be able to find at your local health food store.
