[Image] Bio on the Author - Kathy Noll

1996-Present: In recognition of successful completion of the requisite Course of Study “Writing for Children and Teenagers” and on nomination by its faculty, Kathy Noll was awarded a diploma from the Institute of Children’s Literature where she studied for two years. She also received an award through the Writers’ International Forum’s writing competition for her work. Her short stories and articles have been published in magazines along with interviews.

NBC news worked with Kathy to monitor a classroom in Philadelphia for bullying behavior in 2000. She also has directly helped many children with their own bully problems through her book, online counseling, research, educational and family related internet chats, message board hosting, email and website.

Kathy has spoken on various radio and television shows discussing the topics of school violence and self-esteem, including an appearance with Dr. Jay Carter (“Nasty People”) on the Montel Williams show where they talked to kids about bullying, and promoted their book, "Taking the Bully by the Horns." She also works as a consultant for various TV News & Talk Shows and was recently asked to be the expert testimony for a new children’s literature infomercial through Buena Vista (Disney).

Writing “Taking the Bully by the Horns” has generated many letters of thanks from both adults and children. Students ask permission all the time to use her researched information for their projects.

Kathy has done very well publishing and marketing her books on her own. Information on her work and her books have high placement in all the major search engines on the internet; people from all over the world have found her, ordered her books, and sought her advice. She is very well known, respected, and receives hundreds of emails every month. She has networked with many organizations, schools, anti-violence agencies, mental health professionals, anti-bullying advocates, and child educators around the globe.

Kathy wrote another book which is also now available, "Encounters with Every-Day Angels." It is a workbook on bullying and character development that can be used in the classroom. A lot of teachers requested she write another bullying book that could be used as a workbook. (Q & A's) It also can be used at home. Below are excerpts from one of my very first interviews many moons ago:

On why I became an author:

I was always creative as a child, making up stories to entertain my  friends, and that still holds true today. I took a two-year writing  course  to improve my techniques and have learned a lot through  observation  and over-thinking!

On the mundane details of writing:

With me, the most important thing in writing is notes, notes, notes!  Everything in my environment gives me ideas throughout the day, and I'm quick to write them down so I don't forget. Some of the stuff might fit what I'm currently working on. The rest, I'll save as inspiration for future projects.

I have also found that I can write the best, and get the most done, when I play the role of the hermit! Sometimes I compare myself to Beethoven. In that when we're working on something creative, we neglect ourselves in order to stay focused and get it finished quickly. For example: hair-unbrushed, clothes-unchanged, stomach-unfed!      (can you believe I said this? ha!)

 On a personal note:

I want to mention my talented little [Image]African Grey parrot sweetheart, Jewel. Everyone asks about Jewel; she's been a hit with some of the chats I've done! She has been  featured in two different bird magazines 'cause she is quite the talker. She knows names of colors, foods, and people. And she also enjoys dancing and singing.  ;  )

Her new thing now is to tell everyone when they come in the room, "You're cool! Too cool!"  One day while it was snowing, she put together one of her longest sentences. While looking out the window she said, "Awe, look at all the poor little birdies outside." She's quite a jewel, my Jewel!

On how the book has touched me:

In closing, I want to mention a dear little boy with only one leg who gets teased at his school. He opened my book as a gift from his mother on Christmas morning, and didn't put it down until he finished.

He then said, "I feel a lot better about myself now; this is the best book I ever read."

When his mother told me this, with tears in my eyes I told her, "Now I know why I wrote the book."

Men and woman love this book! Filled with modern day dragons and wizards in human form. A search for your soul mate. Captivating! But is there a moral to this story? Yes, besides creating a positive transformation in yourself, you must also learn to love yourself, before you can expect others to accept and love you.

Also now available: " The Bully Caterpillar"  Harold was a Bully Caterpillar.  He ate leaves and walked on the ground. He ate so much he became the biggest caterpillar around. He resisted the urge to build a cocoon like all the other caterpillars. He thought they were weak. Besides, there was always new smaller caterpillars hatching and he could take out his frustrations on them. He hid his loneliness and sadness with meanness. When they didn't like him, he liked himself. He hid his lack of confidence by being arrogant. He was afraid he couldn't actually fend for himself, so he acted entitled to take things from others. He couldn't admit to himself that he was actually jealous. He needed something special to happen to him, and this is his story; the story of an Inner Child's poignant rite of passage.

In workshops for younger students Dr. Carter picks a volunteer or two to help him tell the story of his book, "The Bully Caterpillar", which he shows via colored transparencies on a projector.

Wherever Dr. Carter speaks people love him. They have filled out questionnaires (all positive) and written reviews stating not only how helpful his programs are but also how warm, caring, funny and charming they find Dr. Carter to be.  "A great guy who is really passionate about wanting to help people/children."
