There is evidence that Elvis sat for a portrait by Piero
Della Francesca shortly before the painter did his well-known portrait
of Frederigo II da Montefeltro, the Count of Urbino.
Art historians have decided that the signature in the
lower corner was added to hide the painting's veracity.
Another painting has mysteriously surfaced, attributed
to Hans Holbein the Younger at about the same time as his commissioned
portrait of Henry VIII.
The inscription "Rex Petrae et Volutationis"
has been loosely translated as "King of Rocks and Rolling".
Did the famous Thomas Gainsborough execute a companion
piece to the painting now known as "The Blue Boy"?
His lesser-known "Blue Suede Shoe Boy" seems
to indicate that he did.
Again, the signature has been attributed to a vandal.
