Almost ten years ago I discovered Reiki. A simple form of healing that takes Universal Life Source Energy and helps us to balance our body, our mind and our spirit and it helps promote our body to naturally heal itself.

Reiki and meditation is a natural, wonderful way for reducing stress by giving us a way of centering ourselves by setting aside those things that weigh heavily on our minds everyday. Many use Reiki as a pain management system. There are people who use it to deal with the pain from Fibromyalgia, CFS and chronic forms of arthritis, and have had amazing results. Using Reiki along with conventional medicine allows the body to heal itself in many ways. Reiki and conventional medicine compliment each other very well. Reiki should never be used as a single form of medical treatment. Traditional forms of medical treatment are encouraged.

The term "Reiki" (pronounced Ray kee) is a Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is a holistic, hands-on approach to well being. It is non-intrusive and a Reiki session is very calming to those who seek it. It promotes deep relaxation and inner peace. The recipient only needs to incorporate heathier lifestyle changes for Reiki to bring the body more into balance.

Reiki can be used on yourself as well as on others. It does not interfere with anyone's religious path and never violates anyone's free will.

"Reiki is thought to have originated in ancient Tibet. In the late 1800's, it was rediscovered in the ancient Sanskrit records and brought back to Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui taught his students his hands-on healing method as well as how to pass on the Reiki teachings. Reiki spread through Japan thanks to Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, who was one of Dr. Usui's students. He opened a clinic in Kyoto, Japan where he taught many students this ancient method. One of his students was Hawayo Takata. She was one of the first women to receive the Reiki Mastership. Mrs Takata is credited with bringing this healing method into Europe and America."

(This above information on Dr. Usui has been taken directly from my Reiki 1 manual and are not my own words but an excellent concise overview that I could never improve upon.)

There are traditionally three levels or degrees of Reiki in the Usui method of natural healing.

Reiki I - The First Degree - This is the introduction level to Reiki. It teaches the student how to access and open up to Universal Life Force Energy. This is where you would learn the history Reiki, what Universal Life Force Energy is and the traditional Reiki hand positions. Here you would learn how to incorporate Reiki into your daily life. The first degree of Reiki is for yourself and others who are present.

Reiki II - The Second Degree - This is where you learn to use the healing symbols that were discovered in the Tibetan writings called the Sutras. You learn how to use these symbols for long distance or absentee healing. I am a Reiki II practitioner.

Reiki III - The Third Degree - This is the degree that is sought by those who are guided to become Reiki Masters or Teachers. Those who have a deep commitment to healing, serving and teaching others.
